Warnings

⚠️Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always use jack stands rated for the vehicle weight.
The sway bar is under tension and may shift when links are disconnected. Keep hands clear of pinch points.

Parts

  • Front sway bar link × 2 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level, solid ground and engage parking brake
  2. Place wheel chocks behind rear wheels
  3. Loosen front wheel lug nuts while vehicle is on the ground (do not remove)
  4. Raise front of vehicle with floor jack at specified jacking points
  5. Support vehicle with jack stands under frame rails
  6. Remove both front wheels completely

Procedure

  1. 1
    Inspect sway bar link condition
Visually inspect both sway bar links for torn boots, excessive play, or damaged ball joints. Note any corrosion on fasteners. Apply penetrating oil to both upper and lower link nuts if corrosion is present and allow to soak for several minutes.
  2. 2
Access driver side sway bar link
Locate the driver side sway bar link connecting the lower control arm to the sway bar. Position yourself with clear access to both the upper nut (at sway bar connection) and lower nut (at control arm connection).
  3. 3
Remove driver side upper link nut
Insert a 6mm Allen key into the hex socket at the top of the link shaft to prevent rotation. Using a 14mm wrench, remove the upper nut connecting the link to the sway bar. The link may drop slightly when released.
  4. 4
Remove driver side lower link nut
While holding the link shaft with the 6mm Allen key from below, use a 14mm wrench to remove the lower nut connecting the link to the control arm. Remove the complete link assembly.
  5. 5
Remove passenger side sway bar link
Repeat the removal process for the passenger side link. Insert the 6mm Allen key into the shaft, remove the upper nut at the sway bar connection, then remove the lower nut at the control arm connection. Remove the complete link assembly.
  6. 6
    Clean mounting points
Use a wire brush to clean the mounting studs on both the sway bar and control arms where the links attach. Remove any rust, dirt, or debris to ensure proper seating of new links and accurate torque readings.
  7. 7
Install new driver side sway bar link
Position the new driver side link between the sway bar and control arm. Thread the upper nut onto the sway bar stud hand-tight, then thread the lower nut onto the control arm stud hand-tight. Ensure boots are properly seated and not twisted.
  8. 8
    Torque driver side link nuts
Hold the link shaft with the 6mm Allen key to prevent rotation. Torque the upper nut to specification, then torque the lower nut to specification. Verify the boot is not twisted or pinched after tightening.

  9. 9
Install new passenger side sway bar link
Position the new passenger side link between the sway bar and control arm. Thread both the upper and lower nuts hand-tight. Ensure boots are properly seated and not twisted.
  10. 10
    Torque passenger side link nuts
Hold the link shaft with the 6mm Allen key to prevent rotation. Torque the upper nut to specification, then torque the lower nut to specification. Verify the boot is not twisted or pinched after tightening.

    Sway Bar Link Nuts55 Nm (41 lb-ft)
  11. 11
    Reinstall wheels
Install both front wheels and thread lug nuts hand-tight. Lower vehicle until wheels just contact the ground but vehicle weight is still on jack stands.
  12. 12
    Final torque and lower vehicle
Torque wheel lug nuts to 110 Nm (81 lb-ft) in a star pattern. Remove jack stands and lower vehicle completely to the ground. Perform final lug nut torque check at full vehicle weight.

Reassembly

  1. Verify all fasteners are torqued to specification with the Allen key properly holding the shaft
  2. Confirm link boots are not torn, twisted, or pinched
  3. Ensure no tools or parts were left in the wheel well area

Verification

  • Start engine and turn steering wheel full lock left and right while stationary to verify no binding or unusual noises
  • Test drive vehicle at low speed over small bumps and during turns to confirm sway bar links are functioning properly with no clunking sounds
  • Verify steering feels normal with proper return to center
  • Re-check torque on all fasteners after first 50 miles of driving
