Free for builders. Affordable for businesses.

FAQ

Why is the data free but the API has paid tiers?
The website always shows everything for free — labor times, torque specs, fluids, DTCs, recalls. The API is also free at the Hobbyist tier (10 requests/day). Paid tiers exist for high-volume production apps that would otherwise hammer the public site. We charge for VOLUME and FEATURES, not data.
Will my free tier ever stop working?
No. The Hobbyist tier is permanent and not going anywhere. Existing users from before paid tiers launched are grandfathered with the same hobbyist limits forever — no risk of being forced to upgrade.
What counts as commercial use?
Hobbyist tier is fine for any app with under 100 active users. Builder tier covers up to 5,000 users. Business and Enterprise are unlimited. "Active users" means anyone who's used your app in the last 30 days.
Do I need to attribute OLP?
On Hobbyist and Builder, yes — a "Data by Open Labor Project" link in your app footer or about page, visible to end users. Business and Enterprise can white-label.
Can I cache responses?
Yes, please. Hobbyist tier requires a 24-hour minimum cache for repeated queries. Builder+ is recommended but not enforced. Caching saves you requests AND saves us bandwidth — everyone wins.
What if I exceed my daily limit?
Requests return HTTP 429 with a Retry-After header. The counter resets at midnight UTC. Your app keeps working — it just gets rate-limited until the reset. Upgrade tiers if you're hitting the wall regularly.
How do I get a refund?
We don't issue refunds — but you can cancel any time and keep access through the end of your billing period. Annual subscribers get 2 months free, so the math is the same.
Can I get a custom plan?
Yes. Anything above Business tier is custom — email [email protected] with your use case and expected volume. Annual contracts preferred but monthly is available.
