Parts

  • Audio amplifier module × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn off all electrical accessories and remove key fob from vehicle
  3. Open rear hatch and remove all cargo from rear storage area
  4. Disconnect negative terminal from 12V battery located under hood using 10mm socket
  5. Wait at least 2 minutes for electrical system capacitors to discharge
  6. Remove rear cargo floor cover to access amplifier location on left side of cargo area

Procedure

  1. 1
Remove left rear cargo trim panel
Using plastic trim removal tools, carefully pry out the trim panel fasteners along the left side cargo area trim panel. Start from the bottom and work upward to avoid breaking clips. Remove the trim panel to expose the amplifier mounting location.
  2. 2
    Disconnect amplifier electrical connectors
Locate the audio amplifier module mounted to the vehicle body. Press the release tabs on each electrical connector (typically 2-3 connectors) and carefully pull them straight out from the amplifier. Note the orientation and position of each connector for reinstallation.
  3. 3
    Remove amplifier ground connection
Locate the ground strap bolt connecting the amplifier to the vehicle chassis. Use a 10mm socket to remove the ground strap bolt. Inspect the ground contact surface on both the amplifier and vehicle body. Clean any corrosion or oxidation using a wire brush or contact cleaner to ensure proper electrical contact during reinstallation.
Ground connection quality is critical for amplifier performance. Ensure contact surfaces are clean and free of paint, corrosion, or debris.

  4. 4
    Remove amplifier mounting bolts
Remove the amplifier mounting bolts using a 10mm socket. Typically there are 2-4 mounting bolts securing the amplifier to the vehicle body or mounting bracket. Support the amplifier while removing the final bolt to prevent it from dropping.
  5. 5
    Remove amplifier from vehicle
Carefully pull the amplifier module away from the mounting surface. Check for any additional wiring or clips that may still be attached. Set the old amplifier aside on a clean work surface.
  6. 6
    Prepare new amplifier for installation
Unpack the new amplifier and verify it matches the original unit. Transfer any mounting brackets or hardware from the old amplifier to the new unit if required. Verify all electrical connector ports are free of debris or protective covers.
  7. 7
    Install new amplifier
Position the new amplifier in the mounting location, aligning the mounting bolt holes with the vehicle body or bracket. Install the mounting bolts hand-tight initially, then torque to specification using a torque wrench in a cross-pattern to ensure even pressure distribution.

    Reconnect electrical connectors
Reconnect each electrical connector to the amplifier in the correct positions as noted during removal. Push each connector firmly until you hear or feel a positive click indicating the locking tab has engaged. Gently tug on each connector to verify it is secure.
  10. 10
    Reinstall trim panel
Align the cargo area trim panel with the mounting locations. Press firmly on each clip location to seat the fasteners properly. Ensure all clips are fully engaged and the panel is flush with surrounding trim.

Reassembly

  1. Reinstall rear cargo floor cover in original position
  2. Reconnect negative terminal to 12V battery and torque battery terminal bolt to 6.0 Nm (4.0 lb-ft)
  3. Clear any diagnostic trouble codes from the audio system if applicable using scan tool
  4. Perform audio system relearn procedure if required by manufacturer specifications

Verification

  • Turn ignition to ON position and verify no warning lights related to audio or electrical systems appear
  • Test all audio system functions including AM/FM radio, streaming audio, and all speaker zones
  • Verify sound quality is balanced and clear with no distortion, popping, or cutting out
  • Test steering wheel audio controls and infotainment screen audio controls for proper operation
  • Check for any unusual noises, rattles, or vibrations from the amplifier mounting area
  • Verify all rear cargo trim panels are securely fastened with no loose clips or gaps
