Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and apply parking brake
- Ensure vehicle has been off for at least 10 minutes
- Open driver's door to prevent lockout
- Locate the 12V battery in the engine compartment
- Disconnect the negative (-) 12V battery terminal and secure cable away from terminal
- Wait at least 2 minutes for system capacitors to discharge
Procedure
- 1Access passenger side lower dashboard areaPosition yourself in the front passenger footwell. The blower motor control module is located behind the lower right side of the dashboard, above the passenger footwell area. You may need to lower the passenger seat fully back for better access.
- 2Remove lower dashboard trim panelLocate and remove the lower passenger side dashboard trim panel. This panel is typically held in place by plastic clips and may have 2-3 screws. Carefully pull the panel away from the dashboard starting at the bottom edge, releasing the retaining clips. Set the panel aside in a safe location.
- 3Locate the blower motor control moduleWith the trim panel removed, locate the blower motor control module mounted to the HVAC housing. It is a rectangular electronic module with a multi-pin electrical connector attached. Use a work light to clearly see the mounting location and connector.
- 4Disconnect electrical connectorLocate the locking tab on the electrical connector attached to the blower motor control module. Press or slide the tab to release the lock, then carefully pull the connector straight off the module. Do not pull on the wires themselves. Note the orientation of the connector for reinstallation.
- 5Remove module mounting fastenersRemove the mounting screws or bolts securing the blower motor control module to the HVAC housing. Typically there are 2-3 fasteners. Keep these fasteners organized for reinstallation.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 6Remove old blower motor control moduleCarefully pull the blower motor control module away from the HVAC housing. You may need to maneuver it slightly to clear the mounting area. Inspect the mounting area and connector for any signs of corrosion, debris, or damage.
- 7Install new blower motor control modulePosition the new blower motor control module into the mounting location, ensuring it is properly oriented and seated flush against the HVAC housing. The mounting holes should align with the mounting points on the housing.
- 8Install and torque mounting fastenersInstall the module mounting bolts or screws finger-tight first, then torque them evenly to specification using a torque wrench. Do not over-torque as this can damage the module housing or HVAC case.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 9Reconnect electrical connectorAlign the electrical connector with the terminal on the blower motor control module and push it on firmly until you hear or feel the locking tab click into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully locked.
- 10Reinstall lower dashboard trim panelPosition the lower dashboard trim panel back into place. Align the clips with their receptacles and press firmly until all clips are fully seated. Install any screws that were removed and tighten securely, but do not over-torque plastic trim screws.

Reassembly
- Ensure all trim panels are fully seated and secured
- Verify all electrical connectors are fully locked

Verification
- Turn the vehicle to ON mode (do not start - press brake and power button without holding)
- Turn the HVAC system on and test all blower motor speed settings from low to high
- Verify smooth operation at all speed settings with no unusual noises
- Confirm airflow increases appropriately with each higher speed setting
- Test in both fresh air and recirculation modes
- Check for any diagnostic trouble codes using the vehicle information center or scan tool
