Replace a single headlight bulb on the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV by accessing the bulb assembly from behind the headlight housing in the engine compartment.
Warnings
⚠Never touch the glass portion of a new bulb with bare hands. Skin oils will cause premature bulb failure and hot spots.
ℹ️This is an electric vehicle with no traditional engine. High voltage components are present but should not be accessed during this procedure.
⚠Allow headlight assembly to cool completely if vehicle was recently operated. LED bulbs and housings can retain heat.

- H11 LED headlight bulb × 1 — Use OEM specification GM 84037566 or equivalent
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and turn off all systems
- Open hood and secure with prop rod
- Identify which headlight requires bulb replacement (driver or passenger side)
- Allow headlight assembly to cool if vehicle was recently used
Procedure
- 1Access headlight bulb assemblyLocate the headlight bulb access cover on the rear of the headlight housing in the engine compartment. On the driver side, you may need to move aside some wiring harnesses for better access. The bulb socket is positioned directly behind the headlight lens assembly.
- 2Remove bulb access coverRotate the bulb access cover counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn and pull it straight back to remove. Set the cover aside in a clean location to prevent contamination.
- 3Disconnect electrical connectorGrasp the electrical connector at the base of the bulb socket. Press the release tab and pull the connector straight back away from the bulb. Do not pull on the wiring harness itself.
- 4Remove bulb retaining ringLocate the spring-loaded retaining ring that secures the bulb in the headlight housing. Press down gently and rotate counterclockwise to release the ring mechanism. Carefully remove the retaining ring and set aside.Torque specBulb Retaining Ring5 Nm (4 lb-ft)
- 5Extract old bulbCarefully pull the old bulb straight out of the headlight housing. Avoid twisting or rocking the bulb excessively. Inspect the bulb socket and housing for any signs of corrosion, moisture, or damage.
- 6Install new bulbWearing clean lint-free gloves, remove the new bulb from its packaging without touching the glass envelope. Align the bulb tabs with the slots in the headlight housing and insert the bulb straight in until it seats fully against the housing.
- 7Secure bulb with retaining ringPosition the retaining ring over the bulb base and engage it with the housing. Rotate clockwise while applying gentle pressure until the ring locks into place securely. Verify the bulb cannot move or rotate in the socket.Torque specBulb Retaining Ring5 Nm (4 lb-ft)
- 8Reconnect electrical connectorAlign the electrical connector with the bulb socket terminals and push firmly until you hear or feel a positive click. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully seated and locked.
- 9Reinstall access coverPosition the bulb access cover over the rear of the headlight assembly, aligning the tabs. Push the cover in and rotate clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks into position.Torque specCover Screws11 Nm (8 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Ensure all wiring harnesses moved during access are returned to their original positions
- Verify the access cover is fully seated and locked to prevent moisture intrusion
Verification
- Turn on the headlights and verify the new bulb illuminates properly
- Check both low beam and high beam operation to ensure correct installation
- Verify no warning lights appear on the instrument cluster related to exterior lighting
- Inspect around the headlight housing to ensure no gaps in the access cover that could allow moisture entry
- Close hood and verify headlight aim appears normal; adjust if necessary
