Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Disconnect the 12V battery negative terminal and wait 2 minutes for system capacitors to discharge
- Lower all windows to prevent accidental door lock engagement
- Gather all necessary tools and replacement parts
Procedure
- 1Remove door panel lower trimUsing a panel removal tool, carefully pry out the lower door panel trim piece starting from the rear edge. Release the retaining clips by pulling outward gently. Set aside the trim piece.
- 2Remove door panel fastenersLocate and remove all T20 Torx screws securing the door panel (typically 2-3 screws along the bottom edge and one behind the door handle). Keep screws organized for reinstallation.
- 3Disconnect door panel electrical connectorsLocate the window switch assembly connector and power lock switch connector. Press the release tabs and disconnect both connectors. If equipped with memory seats, disconnect the mirror memory connector as well.
- 4Remove door panelLift the door panel upward to disengage it from the window sill, then pull it away from the door frame. Carefully set the panel aside on a clean, padded surface to prevent scratches.
- 5Remove water barrier accessPeel back only the section of the water barrier film necessary to access the mirror mounting area (rear upper corner of door). Do not completely remove the barrier unless necessary. Use care to preserve the adhesive.
- 6Disconnect mirror electrical connectorLocate the mirror harness connector inside the door cavity. Press the release tab and disconnect the connector from the mirror motor assembly. Note the routing of the harness for reinstallation.
- 7Remove exterior mirror assemblyFrom inside the door, locate the three 10mm mounting bolts securing the mirror assembly to the door frame. Support the mirror from the outside with one hand while removing the bolts with the other to prevent the mirror from falling.
- 8Separate mirror motor from housingWith the mirror assembly removed, locate the screws or clips securing the motor assembly to the mirror housing. Carefully separate the motor from the housing, noting the orientation and position of any alignment tabs or gaskets.Torque specCover Screws11 Nm (8 lb-ft)
- 9Install new mirror motorPosition the new mirror motor assembly into the mirror housing, aligning any indexing tabs or pins. Secure with the appropriate fasteners, ensuring gaskets are properly seated to maintain weather sealing. Torque cover screws to specification.Torque specCover Screws11 Nm (8 lb-ft)
- 10Reinstall mirror assembly to doorFeed the electrical harness through the door opening and position the mirror assembly onto the door frame. Align the mounting holes and hand-start all three 10mm bolts before tightening to ensure proper alignment. Tighten bolts evenly in a cross pattern.
- 11Reconnect electrical and testReconnect the mirror electrical connector inside the door. Temporarily reconnect the 12V battery and test mirror operation in all directions (up, down, left, right) and fold function if equipped. Verify smooth operation before proceeding.
- 12Reseal water barrier and reinstall door panelPress the water barrier film back into place, ensuring a complete seal around all edges. Reinstall the door panel by reversing removal steps: reconnect all electrical connectors, align panel onto door frame, press firmly to engage clips, and reinstall all T20 Torx screws. Reinstall lower trim piece.
Reassembly
- Ensure all door panel clips are fully seated before applying pressure
- Verify all electrical connectors are fully engaged with audible clicks
- Test window operation after door panel reinstallation to ensure no interference
- Check door panel fitment gaps for uniformity around all edges
Verification
- Test mirror adjustment in all directions (up, down, left, right) from driver controls
- If equipped, verify mirror fold function operates smoothly
- Check for any unusual noises during mirror operation
- Verify mirror heater function if equipped (test in cold conditions or monitor with infrared thermometer)
- Confirm no rattles or loose components in door panel
- Inspect mirror housing exterior seal for proper weather sealing
