Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level, firm surface and engage parking brake
  2. Place wheel chocks behind wheels that will remain on ground
  3. Verify replacement TPMS sensor is correct part number for 2023 Bolt EUV
  4. Ensure TPMS relearn tool is charged and functioning
  5. Note which wheel position requires sensor replacement for proper relearn procedure

Procedure

  1. 1
    Loosen wheel lug nuts
    With vehicle on ground, loosen the wheel lug nuts on the affected wheel approximately one full turn. Do not remove completely at this stage.

    Raise and support vehicle
    Position floor jack under designated jacking point for the affected wheel. Raise vehicle until tire clears ground. Install jack stand at proper support point and lower vehicle onto stand. Verify stability before proceeding.
    ⚠️Ensure jack stand is positioned on vehicle frame rail or designated lift point, not suspension components

    Remove wheel
    Remove the wheel lug nuts completely and remove the wheel from the hub. Place wheel flat on ground with inner face up to prevent damage.
    Torque spec
    Wheel Lug Nuts140 Nm (103 lb-ft)

    Deflate tire and dismount
    Remove the valve cap and use valve core tool to remove the valve core, fully deflating the tire. Mark the tire-to-wheel relationship with chalk if reusing tire. Use tire machine to break bead and dismount tire from wheel, taking care not to damage the TPMS sensor or wheel bead seat.
    Exercise extreme care during tire dismounting to avoid damaging the existing TPMS sensor or wheel finish

    Remove old TPMS sensor
    Locate the TPMS sensor mounted to the valve stem inside the wheel. Remove the hex nut securing the sensor to the wheel rim. Carefully extract the sensor and grommet assembly from the valve hole. Inspect wheel valve hole for damage or debris.
    ℹ️Old TPMS sensors contain batteries and should be disposed of according to local regulations

    Install new TPMS sensor
    Install new grommet/seal onto the new TPMS sensor valve stem. Insert sensor assembly through the wheel valve hole from inside. Hand-thread the hex nut onto the valve stem from outside and tighten to secure sensor. Do not overtighten as this can damage the grommet seal.

    Remount and inflate tire
    Lubricate tire beads with approved tire mounting lubricant. Mount tire back onto wheel, aligning with chalk marks if reused. Inflate tire to seat beads properly. Install new valve core and inflate to the recommended cold pressure of 39 PSI front or 38 PSI rear as specified on driver door jamb label.

    Balance wheel assembly
    Balance the wheel and tire assembly on a tire balancing machine. Install proper wheel weights as needed to achieve balance within specifications.

    Reinstall wheel
    Clean wheel mounting surface on hub with wire brush. Position wheel onto hub and hand-thread all lug nuts. Tighten lug nuts in a star pattern in multiple passes to specification.

    Lower vehicle
    Raise vehicle slightly with jack to unload jack stand, remove jack stand, and carefully lower vehicle to ground. Once weight is fully on ground, perform final torque check on wheel lug nuts in star pattern.

    Perform TPMS relearn
    With vehicle in Park and ignition on, use TPMS relearn tool or GM diagnostic scan tool to initiate sensor relearn mode. Follow tool prompts to activate each sensor in sequence: left front, right front, right rear, left rear. Hold relearn tool antenna near tire sidewall at valve stem location until horn chirps confirming successful learn. Repeat for all four positions even if only one sensor was replaced.

Reassembly

  1. Verify all four TPMS sensors are registered in vehicle system
  2. Install valve cap on replaced sensor valve stem
  3. Verify no tools or parts are left near vehicle
  4. Check tire pressure in all four tires and adjust to specification on door jamb label

Verification

  • Turn ignition to ON position and verify TPMS warning light illuminates briefly then extinguishes
  • Use scan tool or vehicle display to confirm all four tire pressures are displayed correctly
  • Drive vehicle at speeds above 25 mph for at least 10 minutes to ensure TPMS system communicates properly
  • Verify no TPMS warning light or messages appear on instrument cluster
  • Check for air leaks around new sensor valve stem using soap solution
