Replace both headlight bulbs on a 2015-2020 Ford F-150 with 5.0L V8 engine by accessing the bulb assemblies from under the hood.

• H11 headlight bulb (low beam) × 2 — H11 55W halogen or LED equivalent
• 9005 headlight bulb (high beam) × 2 — 9005 65W halogen or LED equivalent - if replacing high beam

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition
2. Allow headlights to cool completely if recently used
3. Open hood and secure with prop rod
4. Put on clean nitrile gloves before handling new bulbs

Procedure

1. 1

   Locate headlight assembly access
   From under the hood, locate the headlight assembly on the side being serviced. The low beam bulb is accessed from the rear of the headlight housing. You will see a large rubber dust boot covering the bulb access point on the back of the headlight assembly.

   Remove dust boot
   Grasp the rubber dust boot at the back of the headlight assembly and rotate counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn, then pull straight back to remove it. The boot protects the bulb from moisture and debris. Set it aside in a clean location.

   Disconnect bulb electrical connector
   Locate the electrical connector attached to the base of the bulb. Press the release tab on the connector and pull straight back to disconnect it from the bulb. Allow the connector to hang freely - do not let it fall into the engine bay.

   Remove bulb retaining clip
   The bulb is held in place by a wire retaining clip. Press the clip inward toward the bulb and lift upward to unhook it from the bulb socket. Rotate the clip out of the way - it will remain attached to the housing. Some force may be required as the clip has spring tension.

   Remove old bulb
   Carefully pull the old H11 bulb straight out of the socket. Avoid rotating or tilting excessively. Inspect the socket for any corrosion, moisture, or damage. If moisture is present, dry the socket thoroughly before installing the new bulb.

   Install new bulb
   While wearing nitrile gloves, remove the new H11 bulb from its packaging. Hold the bulb only by the plastic base. Align the bulb tabs with the socket slots and insert straight into the socket until fully seated. The bulb will only fit in one orientation due to the offset tab design.

   Secure bulb with retaining clip
   Rotate the wire retaining clip back over the bulb base. Press the clip inward and down until it hooks securely into place. Ensure the clip is fully engaged and the bulb cannot move or rotate in the socket.

   Reconnect electrical connector
   Push the electrical connector firmly onto the new bulb base until you hear or feel a distinct click. Gently tug the connector to verify it is locked in place.
9. 9

   Reinstall dust boot
   Align the rubber dust boot tabs with the slots on the headlight housing. Press the boot firmly into place and rotate clockwise approximately 1/4 turn to lock it. Ensure the boot is fully seated around the entire perimeter to maintain weatherproofing.
10. 10

    Repeat for opposite side
    Repeat steps 1-9 for the opposite side headlight assembly. Both bulbs should be replaced as a pair to ensure even light output and color temperature.

Reassembly

1. Ensure both dust boots are properly seated and locked to prevent moisture intrusion
2. Verify all electrical connectors are firmly clicked into place
3. Close hood after verification is complete

Verification

• Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine
• Turn on headlights and verify both low beams illuminate properly
• Check for even brightness and consistent color between both sides
• Toggle to high beams to confirm no electrical issues were created
• Visually inspect from front of vehicle for proper light pattern alignment
