Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and apply parking brake
- Allow engine to cool completely (at least 1 hour after running)

- Identify which VVT solenoid needs replacement (intake/exhaust, left/right bank)
- Gather all tools and parts before starting
Procedure
- 1Disconnect batteryDisconnect the negative battery cable using appropriate wrench. Isolate the cable end away from the battery terminal to prevent accidental reconnection during the repair.
- 2Remove engine coverRemove the plastic engine cover by pulling upward firmly on the cover. It is retained by grommets that snap onto ball studs on the valve covers. Set the cover aside.
- 3Access the VVT solenoidLocate the target VVT solenoid on the appropriate valve cover. The intake solenoids are typically at the front of each valve cover, and exhaust solenoids are toward the rear. You may need to move wiring harnesses or hoses slightly for access. Do not disconnect anything unnecessarily.
- 4Disconnect electrical connectorPress the locking tab on the electrical connector and pull straight out to disconnect it from the VVT solenoid. Do not pull on the wires themselves. Reassembly
