Parts
- Headlight bulb (H11 low beam or 9005 high beam) × 1 — Use OEM specification or quality aftermarket equivalent
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition
- Allow headlight assembly to cool if recently used
- Open hood and secure with prop rod
- Identify which bulb needs replacement (low beam or high beam)
- Put on nitrile gloves to prevent oil contamination of new bulb
Procedure
- 1Access the headlight assemblyLocate the headlight housing from the engine bay behind the headlight assembly. The low beam bulb is positioned toward the center of the vehicle, while the high beam is toward the outer edge. You may need to move aside the air intake tube or coolant reservoir slightly for better access on the driver side.
- 2Remove the bulb access coverTwist the rubber dust cover counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn and pull it straight back to remove it from the headlight housing. Set the cover aside in a clean area to prevent contamination.
- 3Disconnect the electrical connectorPress the release tab on the electrical connector and pull it straight back away from the bulb socket. Do not pull on the wires themselves. Note the orientation of the connector for reinstallation.
- 4Remove the bulb retaining ringLocate the wire retaining clip that secures the bulb in place. Press the clip inward slightly and unhook it from the bulb socket, then swing it out of the way. The clip should remain attached to the housing.
- 5Extract the old bulbCarefully pull the bulb straight out of the headlight reflector housing. Avoid twisting or rocking the bulb excessively. Inspect the bulb socket for any corrosion, moisture, or damage before proceeding.⚠If moisture is present in the housing, the headlight seal may be compromised and require inspection
- 6Prepare the new bulbRemove the new bulb from its packaging while wearing gloves. Hold the bulb only by its plastic base, never touching the glass envelope. If the glass is accidentally touched, clean it with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth before installation.
- 7Install the new bulbAlign the bulb tabs with the slots in the headlight reflector housing and insert the bulb straight in until it is fully seated. Ensure the bulb base is flush against the housing with no gaps.
- 8Secure the retaining ringSwing the wire retaining clip back over the bulb base and hook it into its locking position. Ensure the clip is fully engaged and holds the bulb firmly in place without movement.Torque specBulb Retaining Ring5 Nm (4 lb-ft)
- 9Reconnect the electrical connectorPush the electrical connector straight onto the bulb socket until it clicks into place. Verify the connection is secure by gently tugging on the connector body.
- 10Reinstall the access coverPosition the rubber dust cover over the rear of the bulb socket, align the tabs, and press it into place. Twist clockwise approximately 1/4 turn to lock it in position. Ensure the cover is fully seated to maintain the headlight seal.
Reassembly
- Reposition any moved components such as air intake tubes or coolant reservoir to their original positions
- Close the hood securely
Verification
- Turn the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine
- Activate the headlights and verify the replaced bulb illuminates correctly
- Check both low beam and high beam functions if applicable
- Verify no warning lights appear on the instrument cluster
- Visually inspect the headlight beam pattern against a wall to ensure proper alignment and no dark spots
