Parts
- Side mirror assembly (driver or passenger) × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Door trim panel clips (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Disconnect battery negative terminal and wait 2 minutes for electrical systems to discharge
- Roll down the window on the side being serviced to provide easier access if needed
- Identify mirror features (heated, power-folding, blind spot monitoring, turn signals) to ensure correct replacement
Procedure
- 1Remove door trim panel upper coverUsing a trim panel removal tool, carefully pry the triangular trim cover at the front upper corner of the door panel where it meets the mirror base. Start at the rear edge of the triangle and work forward. The cover is held by plastic clips. Set the cover aside in a safe location.
- 2Access mirror electrical connectorWith the trim cover removed, locate the electrical connector behind the mirror assembly. Press the locking tab on the connector and carefully pull it straight back to disconnect. If the connector is difficult to access, you may need to reach through the door panel opening or partially lower the window for better access.
- 3Remove mirror mounting boltsLocate the three mounting bolts securing the mirror assembly to the door frame. These are typically 10mm bolts accessible from inside the door. Support the mirror assembly from the outside with one hand while removing the bolts with the other. Remove all three bolts completely and carefully pull the mirror assembly away from the door.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 4Inspect mounting surface and gasketExamine the door mounting surface for damage, corrosion, or debris. Clean the surface with a shop towel if necessary. Check the condition of the gasket or seal on the door (if present). If the gasket is damaged, torn, or compressed, it should be replaced to prevent water intrusion.
- 5Prepare new mirror assemblyUnpack the new mirror assembly and verify it matches the original in terms of features (heating elements, turn signals, power-folding, blind spot monitoring). Ensure any protective film or packaging is removed from the mirror glass and housing. Check that the mounting gasket is properly seated on the new assembly.
- 6Position new mirror assemblyFeed the electrical connector through the door opening first, then align the mirror base with the three mounting holes on the door frame. Ensure the gasket seats properly against the door surface. Hold the mirror in position while preparing to install the mounting bolts.
- 7Install mirror mounting boltsThread all three mounting bolts by hand to ensure proper alignment and prevent cross-threading. Once all bolts are started, tighten them in a star pattern to ensure even pressure distribution. Use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to 31.0 Nm (23.0 lb-ft). Verify the mirror sits flush against the door with no gaps.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 8Connect electrical connectorAlign the electrical connector and push it firmly into the mirror assembly socket until you hear or feel a positive click indicating the locking tab has engaged. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is securely locked in place.
- 9Reinstall door trim panel coverAlign the triangular trim cover with the mounting location at the upper front corner of the door panel. Ensure all alignment pins are properly positioned, then press firmly around all edges until all clips are fully seated. You should hear audible clicks as each clip engages.
- 10Reconnect battery and test mirror functionsReconnect the battery negative terminal and tighten to specification. Turn the ignition to the ON position (engine does not need to be running). Test all mirror functions including power adjustment in all directions, heating element (if equipped), power-folding (if equipped), turn signals (if equipped), and blind spot monitoring indicators (if equipped). Verify smooth operation without binding or unusual noises.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Ensure all electrical connector locking tabs are fully engaged before testing
- Verify the door trim cover is completely seated with no gaps or protruding clips
- Check that the mirror housing sits flush against the door with the gasket properly sealed
Verification
- Verify all mirror adjustment functions operate smoothly in all directions
- Test heated mirror function if equipped by running for 3-5 minutes and checking for warmth
- Confirm power-folding function operates correctly in both directions if equipped
- Check that turn signal indicators illuminate properly if equipped
- Verify blind spot monitoring indicators function correctly if equipped
- Visually inspect the mirror mounting area for proper alignment and no gaps
- Perform a test drive and verify the mirror remains secure with no vibration or movement
- If equipped with advanced features, verify no warning lights or error codes are present on the instrument cluster
