This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the PCV valve on the 2021-2024 Ford F-150 equipped with the 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine.
Warnings
⚠Ensure engine is cool before beginning work to avoid burns from hot engine components
ℹ️The PCV valve is located on the passenger side valve cover on the 3.5L EcoBoost engine
ℹ️Do not over-torque the PCV valve as it threads into a plastic valve cover

Parts
- PCV valve × 1 — Use OEM Ford specification
- PCV valve O-ring/grommet × 1 — Often included with PCV valve
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and apply parking brake
- Allow engine to cool completely (at least 30 minutes after running)
- Open hood and secure with prop rod
- Locate PCV valve on passenger side valve cover, typically near the rear of the engine
Procedure
- 1Access the PCV valveIdentify the PCV valve location on the passenger side valve cover. It will have a vacuum hose connected to it running toward the intake manifold. Remove any engine covers or components if they obstruct access, though typically no removal is needed on this engine.
- 2Disconnect PCV vacuum hoseGrasp the vacuum hose firmly at the connection point on the PCV valve. Pull straight up or twist and pull to disconnect the hose from the valve. You may need to use needle-nose pliers to compress the hose clamp if equipped. Inspect the hose for cracks or damage and replace if necessary.ℹ️Some oil vapor residue in the hose is normal; excessive oil may indicate engine issues
- 3Remove the old PCV valveUsing an 8mm socket with extension, carefully turn the PCV valve counterclockwise to remove it from the valve cover. The valve threads directly into the valve cover. Remove it completely and set aside. Note the orientation and depth of installation for the new valve.⚠Do not drop the valve or allow debris to enter the open port in the valve cover
- 4Inspect valve cover portExamine the threaded port in the valve cover for any damage or debris. Wipe the area clean with a shop towel. Inspect the old PCV valve for excessive carbon buildup or rattling (shake it - you should hear a light rattle from the internal check valve). Check the O-ring or grommet on the old valve for deterioration.
- 5Prepare new PCV valveRemove the new PCV valve from packaging. Verify it matches the old valve in thread size and overall design. Ensure the O-ring or grommet is properly seated on the new valve. Lightly lubricate the O-ring with clean engine oil if applicable to ease installation.
- 6Install new PCV valveThread the new PCV valve into the valve cover port by hand, turning clockwise. Thread it in carefully to avoid cross-threading. Once hand-tight, use the 8mm socket and torque wrench to tighten to specification. The valve should seat firmly but not require excessive force.⚠Over-tightening can crack the plastic valve cover; use proper torque specificationTorque specPCV Valve8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 7Reconnect vacuum hosePush the vacuum hose firmly onto the new PCV valve until it seats completely. Ensure the hose is routed properly without kinks or tight bends. If equipped with a hose clamp, ensure it is positioned correctly and secure.
- 8Reinstall any removed componentsIf any engine covers or components were removed for access, reinstall them now in reverse order of removal. Ensure all connections are secure and properly seated.
Reassembly
- Double-check that the PCV valve vacuum hose is fully connected and routed correctly
- Verify no tools or shop towels were left in the engine bay
- Ensure all removed components are reinstalled properly
Verification
- Start the engine and allow it to idle for 1-2 minutes
- Listen for any vacuum leaks or unusual hissing sounds near the PCV valve area
- With engine idling, pinch or disconnect the PCV hose briefly - engine RPM should drop slightly indicating proper PCV function
- Check for any oil leaks around the PCV valve after 5 minutes of operation
- Verify smooth idle quality with no rough running or check engine light
