Parts
- Door speaker × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Door panel clips (assorted) × 1 — Replace any damaged clips
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Disconnect negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts during speaker replacement
- Roll window fully down to access upper door panel mounting points
- Ensure door is fully closed and latched before beginning panel removal
Procedure
- 1Remove door panel screw covers and fastenersUse plastic trim tool to carefully pry out the small screw cover caps located in the door pull handle area and along the bottom edge of the door panel. Remove the exposed T20 Torx screws (typically 2-3 screws depending on door configuration). If equipped with power windows and locks, remove the control switch bezel by prying gently from the rear edge.
- 2Disconnect power window and lock switch assemblyOnce the switch bezel is loose, tilt it upward and disconnect the electrical connector by pressing the locking tab and pulling straight back. Set the switch assembly aside in a safe location to avoid damage.
- 3Release door panel retention clipsStarting at the bottom rear corner of the door panel, insert plastic panel removal tool between the door panel and metal door frame. Work around the perimeter of the panel, releasing each plastic push-pin clip by gently prying outward. There are typically 8-12 clips around the door panel perimeter. Apply even pressure to avoid breaking clips or cracking the panel.
- 4Lift door panel upward and awayOnce all clips are released, lift the entire door panel straight upward approximately 1-2 inches to disengage it from the window sill channel at the top of the door. Tilt the bottom of the panel outward while supporting its weight. Do not pull too far until all electrical connections are verified disconnected.
- 5Disconnect remaining electrical connectorsReach behind the door panel and disconnect any remaining electrical connectors for puddle lamps, ambient lighting, or door handle switches. Press the locking tabs and pull connectors straight apart. Completely remove the door panel and set aside on a clean, padded surface.
- 6Peel back vapor barrier for accessCarefully peel back the plastic vapor barrier sheet in the speaker mounting area only. The barrier may be held with adhesive or clips. Do not remove it completely; only fold back enough to access the speaker mounting screws. Avoid tearing the barrier as it provides moisture protection.
- 7Disconnect speaker electrical connectorLocate the speaker electrical connector attached to the back of the speaker assembly. Press the connector locking tab and pull straight back to disconnect. Note the routing of the speaker wire harness for reinstallation.
- 8Remove speaker mounting fastenersRemove the speaker mounting screws using a T30 Torx driver. Typically there are 3-4 screws securing the speaker to the door frame. Support the speaker as you remove the final screw to prevent it from falling into the door cavity.Torque specCover Screws12 Nm (9 lb-ft)
- 9Extract speaker from doorCarefully pull the speaker assembly straight out from the door frame mounting location. Tilt as needed to maneuver the speaker past any obstructions in the door cavity. Inspect the mounting surface for debris or corrosion before installing the new speaker.
- 10Install new speaker assemblyPosition the new speaker into the door frame mounting location, ensuring the speaker wire connector is accessible and properly routed. Align all mounting screw holes with the door frame. Install the speaker mounting screws and tighten to 12.0 Nm (9.0 lb-ft) in a cross-pattern to ensure even seating.Torque specCover Screws12 Nm (9 lb-ft)
- 11Reconnect speaker electrical connectorConnect the electrical connector to the back of the new speaker until you hear or feel a positive click, indicating the locking tab has engaged. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully seated and locked.
- 12Reposition vapor barrierPress the vapor barrier back into its original position, ensuring all adhesive areas make good contact with the door frame. Smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles to maintain proper moisture seal.
- 13Reinstall door panelReconnect all electrical connectors behind the door panel (puddle lamps, switches, etc.). Position the door panel at the top of the door and engage the upper edge into the window sill channel. Lower the panel into position and press firmly around the perimeter to engage all retention clips until each clicks into place.
- 14Secure door panel fasteners and trimReinstall all T20 Torx screws removed earlier, ensuring they are snug but not overtightened to avoid cracking the panel. Reconnect the power window and lock switch assembly, then snap the switch bezel back into position. Press all screw cover caps back into their respective locations.
- 15Reconnect battery and testReconnect the negative battery terminal. Turn the ignition to the ON position (engine off) and test the new speaker using the audio system. Verify proper sound output and that no rattles or distortion are present. Test at various volume levels.
Reassembly
- Ensure all door panel clips are fully engaged before applying pressure to the panel
- Verify all electrical connectors are locked before operating windows or door controls
- Test door panel for any loose areas or rattles after reassembly
Verification
- Test speaker functionality at low, medium, and high volume levels to ensure proper operation
- Verify no rattles or vibrations from the door panel while audio is playing
- Check that all door panel trim pieces, switches, and bezels are properly seated and secure
- Confirm all power windows, locks, and door-mounted controls operate correctly
