This procedure replaces the multifunction turn signal switch (combination switch) on the steering column of a 2021-2024 Ford F-150 with 3.5L EcoBoost engine.
Warnings
⚠️Disconnect battery and wait 2 minutes minimum before working on steering column to allow airbag system to discharge. Failure to do so can result in accidental airbag deployment and serious injury.
⚠Do not rotate the steering wheel with the airbag clockspring disconnected or removed, as this will damage the clockspring and require replacement.
⚠Position front wheels straight ahead before beginning work to prevent clockspring misalignment.
ℹ️This vehicle may require relearning of steering angle sensor after battery disconnection. Use a scan tool if steering warning lights remain illuminated after repair.

Parts
- Turn signal/multifunction switch × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Electrical contact cleaner × 1 — Dielectric safe
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and set parking brake
- Turn ignition off and remove key/fob from vehicle
- Turn steering wheel to center position with front wheels pointing straight ahead
- Open hood and disconnect negative battery terminal
- Wait minimum 2 minutes for airbag system capacitors to discharge
- Adjust steering column to lowest and furthest forward position for access
Procedure
- 1Disconnect battery negative terminalUsing appropriate wrench, loosen and remove the negative battery terminal bolt. Move the cable away from the battery post and secure it so it cannot make contact. Wait a minimum of 2 minutes before proceeding.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 2Remove lower steering column coversLocate the lower steering column cover fasteners. Remove the screws securing the lower cover panels (typically 2-3 screws). Carefully separate the lower cover halves and remove them from the steering column. Set aside in a clean location.Torque specSteering Column Covers2 Nm (1.5 lb-ft)
- 3Remove upper steering column coverRemove the screws securing the upper steering column cover. Gently pull the upper cover away from the column, being careful not to damage any clips. Note the location of any alignment tabs for reassembly.Torque specSteering Column Covers2 Nm (1.5 lb-ft)
- 4Disconnect airbag clockspring connectorLocate the yellow airbag connector at the base of the steering column. Press the locking tab and carefully disconnect the airbag clockspring connector. Move the connector aside to provide access to the multifunction switch.⚠Handle airbag connectors carefully and do not force. Yellow connectors indicate airbag circuit components.
- 5Disconnect multifunction switch electrical connectorsLocate the main electrical connectors for the turn signal/multifunction switch. These are typically two or three connectors on the left side of the steering column. Press the locking tabs and carefully disconnect each connector. Note the connector positions and routing for reinstallation.
- 6Remove turn signal switch mounting screwsLocate the screws securing the turn signal switch assembly to the steering column (typically 2-3 screws). Using a T20 Torx or appropriate driver, remove the switch mounting screws. Keep screws organized for reinstallation.Torque specSwitch Mounting Screws3 Nm (2 lb-ft)
- 7Remove turn signal switch assemblyCarefully pull the turn signal switch assembly away from the steering column. Guide the electrical connectors and wiring through any clips or retainers. Remove the switch completely from the vehicle. Inspect the mounting area for any debris or damage.
- 8Prepare new turn signal switchRemove the new turn signal switch from packaging. Inspect all electrical terminals for damage or contamination. If needed, lightly spray electrical contact cleaner on connector terminals and allow to dry. Compare the new switch to the old switch to verify correct replacement part.
- 9Install new turn signal switchGuide the new switch wiring and connectors through the steering column area. Position the switch assembly onto the steering column mounting points, ensuring proper alignment with the steering shaft lever engagement. Hand-start all mounting screws before tightening.
- 10Torque switch mounting screwsUsing a torque wrench, tighten the switch mounting screws to specification in a cross-pattern if multiple screws are present. Verify the switch is secure and properly aligned with the steering column.Torque specSwitch Mounting Screws3 Nm (2 lb-ft)
- 11Reconnect electrical connectorsReconnect all multifunction switch electrical connectors, ensuring each connector clicks securely into place. Verify each locking tab is fully engaged. Reconnect the yellow airbag clockspring connector, ensuring it clicks and locks properly.
- 12Reinstall steering column coversPosition the upper steering column cover, aligning all tabs and clips. Install and torque the upper cover screws. Position the lower steering column cover halves, ensuring proper alignment. Install and torque the lower cover screws.Torque specSteering Column Covers2 Nm (1.5 lb-ft)
- 13Reconnect batteryReconnect the negative battery terminal to the battery post. Torque the terminal bolt to specification. Ensure the connection is clean and secure.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Verify all steering column covers are properly secured and aligned
- Ensure no tools or parts are left in the steering column area
- Confirm steering wheel movement is not obstructed by any components
- Verify all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position (engine off) and verify turn signals function in both left and right directions
- Test hazard light function by activating hazard switch
- Verify high beam/low beam headlight switch operates correctly
- Test windshield wiper and washer functions through all switch positions
- Verify cruise control switches operate correctly (if equipped)
- Check for any warning lights on instrument cluster, particularly airbag or steering system warnings
- If steering angle sensor warning appears, use diagnostic scan tool to recalibrate steering angle sensor
- Test all multifunction switch positions while turning steering wheel through full range of motion to ensure no binding or interference
