Parts

  • Windshield washer pump × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Washer pump grommet (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification

Fluids

  • Windshield Washer Fluid — 3.5 qt

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn ignition off and remove key
  3. Open hood and secure with prop rod
  4. Locate washer reservoir on driver side inner fender area
  5. Prepare drain pan and shop towels under work area

Procedure

  1. 1
    Drain washer fluid reservoir
Use a fluid transfer pump or turkey baster to remove as much washer fluid as possible from the reservoir. Transfer fluid to a clean container for reuse if uncontaminated. This minimizes spillage during pump removal.
  2. 2
    Remove inner fender shield fasteners
Working from the wheel well area, remove the front portion of the driver side inner fender shield. Remove the plastic push clips and fasteners securing the front section of the fender liner. You only need to pull back enough to access the lower portion of the washer reservoir.
  3. 3
    Access washer pump connector
Locate the washer pump electrical connector on the bottom of the reservoir. The pump is mounted in a rubber grommet at the base of the reservoir. Press the locking tab on the electrical connector and disconnect it from the pump.
  4. 4
    Disconnect washer hose
Identify the outlet hose connected to the washer pump. Squeeze the hose clamp tabs or use pliers to slide the clamp down the hose away from the pump. Pull the hose straight off the pump outlet. Have shop towels ready as residual fluid will drain from the hose.
Residual washer fluid will spill from the hose. Position drain pan accordingly.
  5. 5
    Remove washer pump from reservoir
Grasp the washer pump body firmly and rotate it counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn while pulling outward. The pump is held in place by a twist-lock rubber grommet. Once rotated, pull the pump straight out of the reservoir. Expect additional fluid to drain from the reservoir opening.
  6. 6
    Inspect and prepare new pump
Inspect the rubber grommet on the old pump. If it's cracked, damaged, or shows signs of leaking, transfer the new grommet from the replacement pump kit or install a new one. Ensure the grommet is properly seated on the new pump body before installation.
  7. 7
    Install new washer pump
Insert the new washer pump into the reservoir opening, aligning the tabs on the pump body with the slots in the grommet. Push the pump in firmly while rotating clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks into place. Ensure the pump is fully seated and secure.
  8. 8
    Reconnect hose and electrical connector
Push the washer hose firmly onto the pump outlet until it bottoms out. Slide the hose clamp back up to secure the connection approximately 1/4 inch from the end of the hose. Connect the electrical connector to the pump until it clicks into place.
  9. 9
    Reinstall inner fender shield
Reposition the inner fender liner and reinstall all push clips and fasteners that were removed. Ensure the liner is properly seated and all fasteners are secure to prevent rattling or water intrusion.
  10. 10
    Refill washer fluid reservoir
Pour windshield washer fluid into the reservoir fill neck until it reaches the full line. The reservoir capacity is approximately 3.5 quarts. Do not overfill.

Reassembly

  1. Verify all electrical connections are fully seated and locked
  2. Ensure hose clamp is properly positioned and tight
  3. Check that inner fender shield is securely fastened with all clips installed
  4. Confirm washer fluid is filled to proper level

Verification

  • Turn ignition to RUN position without starting engine
  • Activate windshield washer spray and verify fluid sprays from both nozzles with good pressure
  • Listen for normal pump operation - should be smooth without grinding or excessive noise
  • Check for leaks around pump mounting area, hose connection, and reservoir
  • Verify pump shuts off immediately when washer switch is released
  • Inspect inner fender area for any fluid drips after test operation
  • Close hood and verify washer operation from driver seat
