Preparation
- Ensure engine is cold to the touch (wait at least 2 hours after running)
- Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 3 minutes for system capacitors to discharge
- Remove engine cover by pulling upward on all four corners to release grommets
- Place drain pan and shop towels under fuel rail area to catch residual fuel
Procedure
- 1Depressurize fuel systemLocate the fuel pump relay in the under-hood fuse box (driver's side). Remove the fuel pump relay, then reconnect the battery negative terminal temporarily. Attempt to start the engine and let it run until it stalls (usually 2-5 seconds). Crank the engine for an additional 3 seconds to ensure complete depressurization. Disconnect the battery negative terminal again.
- 2Remove intake air ductLoosen the hose clamp at the turbocharger inlet using a flathead screwdriver or socket. Disconnect the intake air duct from the turbocharger and air filter housing. Remove the duct to provide access to the fuel rail area.Torque specHose Clamps3 Nm (2 lb-ft)
- 3Disconnect fuel supply lineLocate the fuel supply line connection at the fuel rail (driver's side of engine). Using the appropriate fuel line disconnect tool, press the tabs and pull the quick-disconnect fitting straight off the fuel rail. Fuel will drain from the line; catch it in the drain pan. Cover the open line with a clean shop towel.⚠Expect approximately 50-100ml of fuel to drain from the disconnected line.
- 4Disconnect electrical connectorsDisconnect the electrical connector from each of the four fuel injectors by pressing the release tab and pulling straight up. Unclip the injector wiring harness from the fuel rail brackets. Move the harness aside to provide clearance.
- 5Remove vacuum hose and PCV connectionsDisconnect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose from the intake manifold. Disconnect any PCV or breather hoses attached to the fuel rail or that obstruct access to the fuel rail mounting bolts.
- 6Remove fuel rail mounting boltsRemove the two 10mm fuel rail mounting bolts. These are located at the ends of the fuel rail assembly. Keep these bolts organized as they will be torqued to specification during reassembly.
- 7Remove fuel rail assemblyCarefully pull the fuel rail straight up with even pressure on both ends. The fuel injectors will pull out of the intake manifold with the rail. Rock the assembly gently side-to-side if resistance is felt, but do not pry. Once free, place the assembly on a clean work surface with the injectors facing up.⚠Do not bend or twist the fuel rail as this can damage injector seals or the rail itself.
- 8Inspect and prepare injector portsInspect the fuel injector ports in the intake manifold for debris, carbon buildup, or damaged O-ring grooves. Clean the ports with a clean lint-free cloth. Do not allow any debris to fall into the intake manifold. Cover the open ports with clean shop towels if the rail will be off for an extended period.
- 9Install new fuel rail or prepare existing railIf installing a new fuel rail, transfer components as needed and verify all injectors are properly seated. If reusing the existing rail, inspect all O-rings on the fuel injectors and replace if damaged. Lightly lubricate new O-rings with clean engine oil. Install new O-rings on the fuel supply line connection point.
- 10Install fuel rail assemblyAlign all four fuel injectors with their respective ports in the intake manifold. Press the fuel rail down evenly with both hands, ensuring each injector enters its port straight without binding. Push down firmly until the rail seats completely and the mounting bolt holes align.⚠Injectors must be installed straight to avoid damaging O-rings. If resistance is felt, remove and inspect for proper alignment.

- 12Reconnect fuel supply lineRemove the protective covering from the fuel supply line. Push the quick-disconnect fitting straight onto the fuel rail connection until it clicks into place. Gently tug on the line to verify it is locked.
- 13Reconnect electrical and vacuum connectionsReconnect the electrical connector to each fuel injector, ensuring each clicks into place. Reclip the wiring harness to the fuel rail brackets. Reconnect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose and any PCV or breather hoses removed earlier.

Reassembly
- Reinstall the fuel pump relay in the under-hood fuse box
- Reconnect the battery negative terminal
- Reinstall the engine cover, ensuring all grommets are properly seated
- Do NOT start the engine yet - proceed to verification steps first
Verification
- Turn the ignition key to ON position (do not start) for 2 seconds, then OFF. Repeat this 3 times to prime the fuel system and pressurize the fuel rail
- Visually inspect all fuel connections for leaks, particularly the fuel supply line and injector O-ring areas
- Start the engine and let it idle. Inspect again for any fuel leaks while the system is under full pressure
- Check for proper engine idle quality and smooth operation. Rough idle may indicate an improperly seated injector
- Clear any diagnostic trouble codes using an OBD-II scanner if the check engine light illuminates
- Test drive the vehicle to verify normal acceleration and engine performance
