Parts
- Blower motor assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Cabin air filter (if contaminated) × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park the vehicle on level ground and engage the parking brake
- Turn off the ignition and remove the key
- Allow the HVAC system to cool if recently used
- Move the passenger seat fully rearward and reclined for better access
Procedure
- 1Remove passenger side lower dash panelLocate and remove the plastic trim panel below the glove box on the passenger side. Remove the retaining screws and carefully pull the panel away using trim tools to release the clips. Disconnect any electrical connectors for courtesy lights if equipped.
- 2Remove glove box assemblyOpen the glove box and remove all contents. Squeeze the sides of the glove box inward to release the dampener arms from their slots. Lower the glove box completely down and remove the mounting screws at the hinge points. Carefully remove the entire glove box assembly.
- 3Access cabin air filter housingLocate the cabin air filter cover on the HVAC housing behind where the glove box was located. Remove the cover by releasing the tabs or removing the screws. Remove the cabin air filter and inspect for debris or contamination that may have damaged the blower motor.
- 4Disconnect blower motor electrical connectorLocate the blower motor assembly on the lower right side of the HVAC housing. Press the locking tab on the electrical connector and disconnect it from the blower motor. Note the routing of the wiring harness for reinstallation.
- 5Remove blower motor mounting screwsRemove the three Phillips screws securing the blower motor assembly to the HVAC housing. Support the blower motor with one hand while removing the final screw to prevent it from falling.⚠The blower motor may have accumulated debris on the fan wheel. Support it carefully to avoid spilling debris into the HVAC housing.Torque specBlower Motor Screws4 Nm (3 lb-ft)
- 6Remove blower motor assemblyCarefully rotate and lower the blower motor assembly out of the HVAC housing. Maneuver it around any obstructions and remove it through the opening. Inspect the fan wheel for damage, debris buildup, or signs of contact with the housing.
- 7Clean HVAC housing cavityUse a vacuum and clean cloth to remove any debris, leaves, or moisture from the blower motor cavity in the HVAC housing. Inspect the housing for cracks or damage. Check that the drain tubes are clear.
- 8Install new blower motorPosition the new blower motor assembly and carefully guide it into the HVAC housing opening. Rotate and align it so the mounting holes line up with the housing. Ensure the fan wheel does not contact the housing walls and rotates freely.
- 9Secure blower motor mounting screwsInstall the three mounting screws and tighten them in a crossing pattern to ensure even seating. Torque the screws to specification. Verify the blower motor is securely mounted with no movement.Torque specBlower Motor Screws4 Nm (3 lb-ft)
- 10Reconnect electrical connectorConnect the electrical connector to the blower motor until you hear or feel the locking tab engage. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully seated and locked.
- 11Test blower motor operationTurn the ignition to ON position without starting the engine. Test the blower motor at all speed settings (low, medium, high) and verify smooth, quiet operation. Listen for any unusual noises, vibrations, or grinding sounds. Test all airflow direction settings.
Reassembly
- Install a new cabin air filter if the old one was contaminated or if debris was found in the blower motor area
- Reinstall the cabin air filter cover and tighten screws to specification
- Reinstall the glove box assembly by reversing removal procedure, ensuring dampener arms engage properly
- Reinstall the passenger side lower dash panel, ensuring all clips engage and any electrical connectors are reconnected
- Return the passenger seat to the desired position
Verification
- Start the engine and test the blower motor at all fan speed settings to confirm proper operation
- Verify airflow is strong and consistent at all speeds with no unusual noises or vibrations
- Test all airflow direction settings (floor, vent, defrost, mixed modes) to ensure proper function
- Check that air temperature control works properly in both heat and cool modes
- Inspect all reinstalled panels for proper fit and secure mounting with no rattles
