This procedure drains and refills the differential (integrated into the transmission) with fresh Honda DW-1 ATF to maintain proper lubrication and extend component life.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Place wheel chocks behind rear wheels
3. Raise front of vehicle and support securely on jack stands at specified lift points
4. Allow transmission to cool if vehicle was recently operated
5. Locate drain plug and fill plug on transmission case (driver side, lower section)
6. Clean area around drain and fill plugs to prevent contamination

Procedure

   Remove fill plug first
   Using 17mm socket, loosen and remove the fill plug from the transmission case. This ensures you can refill after draining. If fill plug is seized, do not proceed with draining.
   Torque spec

   Fill Plug39 Nm (29 lb-ft)

   Position drain pan
   Place drain pan directly under the drain plug location. Position it slightly forward to catch initial fluid stream which may project outward.

   Remove drain plug and drain fluid
   Using 17mm socket, carefully loosen and remove the drain plug. Allow fluid to drain completely until flow stops to a slow drip (approximately 5-10 minutes). Inspect drained fluid for metal particles or unusual debris.
   Torque spec

   Drain Plug39 Nm (29 lb-ft)

   Inspect and replace drain plug washer
   Remove old washer from drain plug and discard. Install new washer onto drain plug. Wipe drain plug threads and sealing surface clean with shop towel.

   Reinstall drain plug
   Thread drain plug by hand until seated, then torque to specification using torque wrench. Ensure washer is properly seated before final torquing.
   Torque spec

   Drain Plug39 Nm (29 lb-ft)

   Refill with Honda DW-1 ATF
   Using fluid pump or funnel with extension hose, add approximately 2.0 quarts of Honda DW-1 ATF through the fill plug hole. Fill until fluid begins to trickle out of fill hole, indicating proper level. Allow fluid to stabilize for 1-2 minutes.

   Reinstall fill plug
   Wipe fill plug threads clean and thread by hand until seated. Torque fill plug to specification using torque wrench.

   Fill Plug39 Nm (29 lb-ft)
8. 8

   Lower vehicle and verify
   Lower vehicle from jack stands. Start engine and allow to idle for 2-3 minutes. Shift through all gear positions (P-R-N-D) pausing 2 seconds in each. Return to Park and check for leaks around drain and fill plugs while engine idles.

Reassembly

1. Ensure both drain and fill plugs are torqued to specification
2. Verify no fluid leaks are present at plug locations
3. Dispose of used ATF at appropriate recycling facility

Verification

• Check for fluid leaks around drain and fill plugs after test drive
• Verify smooth transmission operation with no unusual noises
• Confirm transmission fluid is at proper level (fluid should be at fill hole level when checked on level ground)
• Record mileage and date of service for maintenance tracking
