This procedure covers the replacement of the fog light bulb on a 2016-2021 Honda Civic with 1.5L turbo engine, accessed from the wheel well or underneath the vehicle.

Preparation

1. Ensure the fog lights are off and have cooled completely
2. Turn the ignition off and remove the key
3. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
4. Turn the steering wheel fully to the opposite side of the fog light being replaced for better access

Procedure

1. 1

   Access the fog light assembly
   From underneath the front bumper or through the wheel well, locate the fog light assembly on the lower bumper. You may need to partially peel back the front portion of the wheel well liner by removing plastic clips or push pins with a trim tool. On most 2016-2021 Civics, access is possible without full liner removal.

   Locate the bulb connector
   Reach behind the fog light housing and locate the electrical connector attached to the back of the bulb socket. Use a flashlight to identify the connector orientation and locking mechanism.

   Disconnect the electrical connector
   Press the locking tab on the electrical connector and pull it straight back away from the bulb socket. Do not pull on the wires themselves. Set the connector aside where it will not contact moving parts or the ground.

   Remove the bulb socket
   Rotate the bulb socket counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn (90 degrees) and pull it straight out from the fog light housing. The socket and bulb come out as one assembly.

   Remove the old bulb
   The H11 bulb is typically retained by a wire clip or simply pulls straight out of the socket. If there is a wire clip, squeeze the tabs and swing it away, then pull the bulb straight out from the socket base. Note the orientation of the bulb tabs.

   Install the new bulb
   Wearing gloves or using a clean cloth, insert the new H11 bulb into the socket, aligning the tabs with the grooves. Do not touch the glass envelope. If equipped with a wire clip, secure it over the bulb base until it clicks into place.

   Reinstall the bulb socket
   Insert the bulb socket assembly back into the fog light housing, align the tabs, and rotate clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks into place. Ensure it is fully seated.

   Reconnect the electrical connector
   Push the electrical connector firmly onto the bulb socket until the locking tab clicks into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is secure.

   Restore wheel well liner
   If any wheel well liner clips or push pins were removed, reinstall them by pressing firmly until they click into place. Ensure the liner is properly seated and will not interfere with tire rotation.

Reassembly

1. Verify all wheel well liner fasteners are securely reinstalled
2. Ensure no tools or parts are left in the wheel well or under the vehicle

Verification

• Turn the ignition to ON position and activate the fog lights to verify the new bulb illuminates properly
• Check for proper beam pattern and that the light output is consistent with the opposite side
• Perform a visual inspection from outside the vehicle to confirm fog light operation and proper housing alignment
