Parts
- Horn assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Horn mounting bolt × 1 — Reuse unless damaged
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
- Turn ignition off and remove key
- Disconnect negative battery terminal using 10mm socket
- Wait minimum 3 minutes for airbag system capacitors to discharge
- Allow engine to cool if recently operated
Procedure
- 1Access the horn locationFrom underneath the front of the vehicle, locate the horn assembly mounted behind the driver side of the front bumper, near the headlight area. The horn is a disc-shaped component with a single electrical connector and mounting bolt. Use a flashlight if needed for visibility.
- 2Disconnect the horn electrical connectorPress the locking tab on the horn electrical connector and carefully pull it straight off the horn terminal. Inspect the connector for corrosion or damage. If connector is corroded, clean with electrical contact cleaner before proceeding.
- 3Remove the horn mounting boltUsing a 10mm socket with extension, remove the single horn mounting bolt. Support the horn with your free hand to prevent it from falling once the bolt is removed. Retain the bolt if in good condition for reinstallation.Torque specHorn Mounting Bolt15 Nm (11 lb-ft)
- 4Remove the horn assemblyPull the horn assembly away from the mounting bracket. Inspect the mounting bracket for damage or excessive corrosion. Clean the mounting surface with a wire brush if rust or debris is present.
- 5Inspect and prepare new hornCompare the new horn to the old unit to verify correct replacement part. Check that the electrical terminal is clean and the mounting hole aligns properly. Test fit the horn to the mounting bracket before final installation.
- 6Install the new horn assemblyPosition the new horn onto the mounting bracket, aligning the mounting hole. Insert the horn mounting bolt and hand-tighten initially to ensure proper threading and alignment.Torque specHorn Mounting Bolt15 Nm (11 lb-ft)
- 7Torque the horn mounting boltUsing a torque wrench, tighten the horn mounting bolt to 15.0 Nm (11.0 lb-ft). Ensure the horn is seated flush against the mounting bracket and does not rotate or move when torque is applied.Torque specHorn Mounting Bolt15 Nm (11 lb-ft)
- 8Connect the electrical connectorPush the electrical connector firmly onto the horn terminal until the locking tab clicks into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully seated and locked.
- 9Reconnect the batteryReconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten securely. The horn system is now ready for testing.
Reassembly
- Ensure the horn mounting bolt is torqued to specification and the horn is secure
- Verify the electrical connector is fully seated with locking tab engaged
- No additional reassembly steps are required for this procedure
Verification
- Turn the ignition to ON position (engine does not need to run)
- Press the horn button on the steering wheel and verify the horn sounds clearly
- If horn does not sound, recheck electrical connector seating and battery connection
- Verify no warning lights are illuminated on the instrument cluster
- Test horn operation multiple times to ensure consistent function
