Preparation
- Verify vehicle is equipped with hydraulic power steering by checking for power steering fluid reservoir in engine bay
- Park vehicle on level surface and apply parking brake
- Place wheel chocks behind rear wheels
- Allow engine to cool completely if recently driven
- Remove engine cover if equipped by pulling upward on retaining clips
- Use turkey baster or fluid extractor to remove as much power steering fluid as possible from reservoir to minimize spillage
Procedure
- 1Raise and secure vehicleRaise the front of the vehicle using a floor jack at the designated front jacking point. Support the vehicle securely on jack stands placed at the front subframe jacking points. Ensure vehicle is stable before working underneath.
- 2Access high-pressure hose at pumpLocate the high-pressure power steering hose connection at the power steering pump on the passenger side of the engine bay. Clean the area around the fitting with a wire brush and shop towel to remove dirt and debris that could contaminate the system.
- 3Disconnect hose at pumpPlace drain pan below the pump connection. Using a 17mm flare nut wrench, loosen the high-pressure line fitting at the power steering pump. Expect power steering fluid to drain. Once loose, unthread the fitting by hand and move the line away from the pump. Cover the pump port with a clean shop towel to prevent contamination.
- 4Locate steering rack connectionFrom underneath the vehicle, locate where the high-pressure hose connects to the power steering rack on the driver side of the vehicle, near the firewall. Clean the area around the fitting thoroughly.
- 5Disconnect hose at rackPosition drain pan under the steering rack connection. Using a 17mm flare nut wrench, carefully loosen the high-pressure line fitting at the steering rack. Once loose, unthread by hand and allow remaining fluid to drain. Cover the rack port with a clean shop towel.
- 6Remove hose routing clipsTrace the high-pressure hose along its routing path and release any retaining clips or brackets securing it to the chassis or engine bay. Note the exact routing for installation of the new hose.
- 7Remove old hoseCarefully maneuver the old high-pressure hose out of the engine bay, taking care not to damage surrounding components. Inspect the old hose for signs of failure such as cracks, bulging, or leaking at crimp points.
- 8Prepare new hoseUnpack the new high-pressure power steering hose. Verify it matches the old hose in length and fitting configuration. Install new O-rings on both fittings, lightly lubricating them with clean power steering fluid. Do not reuse old O-rings.

- 12Fill power steering systemFill the power steering reservoir with Honda Genuine Power Steering Fluid to the cold MAX line. Do not overfill. Allow fluid to settle for a few minutes.
- 13Bleed air from systemWith engine off, turn the steering wheel slowly from lock to lock several times to distribute fluid through the system. Check reservoir level and add fluid as needed. Repeat until fluid level stabilizes and no more air bubbles appear in the reservoir.
- 14Lower vehicle and final bleedingRemove jack stands and lower vehicle to ground. Start engine and allow to idle. Turn steering wheel slowly from lock to lock 3-4 times while checking for leaks at both connections. Check fluid level and top off to HOT MAX line. Listen for unusual pump noises indicating air in the system.
Reassembly
- Reinstall engine cover by pressing down on retaining clips until they click into place
- Wipe up any spilled power steering fluid from engine bay and undercarriage
- Remove wheel chocks
Verification
- Inspect both power steering line connections for any signs of fluid leakage while engine is running
- Turn steering wheel fully left and right while vehicle is running and verify smooth operation with no unusual noises
- Check power steering fluid level is at HOT MAX line with engine at operating temperature
- Test drive vehicle and verify normal power steering assist operation and no fluid leaks
- Recheck fluid level and connections after test drive and again after 24 hours of normal driving
