Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition
  2. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 3 minutes for system capacitor discharge
  3. Ensure sunroof is in the closed position before beginning work

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove overhead console lens cover
Using a trim removal tool, carefully pry the front edge of the overhead console lens cover near the map lights. The cover is held by spring clips. Work from front to back, releasing each clip gently to avoid breaking the tabs.
  2. 2
    Disconnect map light connectors
Locate the electrical connectors for the map lights on the back of the lens cover. Press the locking tab on each connector and pull straight out to disconnect. Set the lens cover aside in a safe location.
  3. 3
    Remove overhead console mounting screws
Locate the two Phillips head screws securing the overhead console to the headliner. These are typically positioned on either side of the console. Remove both screws and retain them for reinstallation.

  4. 4
    Lower overhead console assembly
Carefully pull the overhead console downward from the headliner. The rear edge may have additional clips. Tilt the front edge down first, then work the rear free. Do not pull forcefully as wiring harnesses are still connected.
  5. 5
    Disconnect sunroof switch connector
Locate the sunroof switch electrical connector on the back of the console. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight out from the switch. Note the connector orientation for reinstallation.
  6. 6
    Remove sunroof switch from console
The sunroof switch is held in the console by two small tabs on each side. Using a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool, press the tabs inward from the back side while pushing the switch out from the front. Remove the old switch from the console housing.
  7. 7
    Install new sunroof switch
Position the new sunroof switch in the console opening from the front side. Ensure the switch is oriented correctly with the tilt function facing forward. Press firmly until the side tabs click into place. Verify the switch is seated flush with the console surface.
  8. 8
    Reconnect electrical connector
Plug the sunroof switch electrical connector into the back of the new switch. Press firmly until you hear and feel the locking tab click into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is secure.
  9. 9
    Reinstall overhead console assembly
Position the overhead console back into the headliner opening. Ensure the rear clips engage first, then press the front portion upward. Align the screw holes carefully before installing the mounting screws.

Reconnect map lights and install lens cover

Reassembly

  1. Reconnect the negative battery terminal and torque to specification
  2. Ensure all trim panels are properly seated and secured before testing

Verification

  • Turn the ignition to ON position without starting the engine
  • Test sunroof tilt function by pressing the rear of the switch - sunroof should tilt up and down

  • Check that the sunroof stops at the proper closed position with no gaps
  • Verify map lights function correctly and no warning lights appear on the dashboard
