Parts
- Roof antenna assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Antenna base gasket/seal × 1 — Usually included with antenna assembly
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and ensure ignition is off
- Turn off radio/infotainment system
- Verify you have the correct replacement antenna for your specific Tucson model year and trim level
Procedure
- 1Access the antenna mounting areaFrom inside the vehicle, locate the overhead console or headliner area directly below the roof antenna. You may need to partially lower the front overhead console by removing any trim screws or clips to access the antenna cable connection and mounting hardware.
- 2Disconnect the antenna cableLocate the coaxial antenna cable connector attached to the base of the antenna assembly. Press the release tab if present and firmly pull the connector straight down to disconnect it from the antenna base. Note the routing of the cable for reinstallation.
- 3Remove exterior antenna mastFrom outside the vehicle on the roof, grip the antenna mast firmly and rotate it counterclockwise to unthread it from the base assembly. On shark fin style antennas, the entire assembly will be removed in the next step. Set the mast aside in a safe location.
- 4Remove antenna base mounting hardwareUsing a 10mm socket with extension, remove the mounting bolts securing the antenna base to the roof. There are typically 3-4 bolts accessible from inside the vehicle through the headliner opening. Support the antenna base from outside while removing the final bolt to prevent it from falling.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 5Remove antenna base assemblyCarefully lower the antenna base assembly through the headliner opening from inside the vehicle. Inspect the rubber gasket/seal on the base and the roof surface for any damage, corrosion, or debris. Clean the mounting surface on the roof with a clean cloth if necessary.
- 6Prepare new antenna assemblyUnpack the new antenna assembly and verify all components are present including the base gasket. If the gasket is separate, install it onto the base of the new antenna ensuring it is properly seated in the groove. Apply a thin layer of dielectric grease to the coaxial connector if desired for corrosion protection.
- 7Install new antenna baseFrom inside the vehicle, guide the new antenna base up through the headliner opening, ensuring the gasket is properly aligned with the roof opening. Position the base so the mounting holes align with the roof mounting points. Have an assistant hold the base from outside if needed to maintain alignment.
- 8Secure antenna base mounting boltsInstall the mounting bolts through the base and into the roof mounting points. Start all bolts by hand first to ensure proper thread engagement. Tighten bolts in a cross pattern to 27.0 Nm (20 lb-ft) to ensure even gasket compression and proper seal. Verify the base sits flush against the roof with no gaps.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 9Reconnect antenna cablePush the coaxial antenna cable connector firmly onto the base of the new antenna until you hear or feel a positive click. Gently tug on the cable to verify it is securely connected. Ensure the cable routing matches the original path and is not kinked or pinched.
- 10Install antenna mastFrom outside the vehicle, thread the antenna mast clockwise into the base assembly. Hand tighten until snug, but do not overtighten as this can damage the threads. For shark fin antennas, this step is not applicable as the assembly is one piece.
- 11Reinstall interior trimReinstall any overhead console trim pieces or headliner components that were removed for access. Ensure all clips are fully seated and any screws are tightened securely but not overtightened to avoid cracking the plastic trim.
Reassembly
- Verify the antenna base gasket is properly sealed with no visible gaps around the perimeter
- Ensure all interior trim pieces are reinstalled and secured properly
- Confirm the antenna cable routing does not interfere with any other components or moving parts
Verification
- Turn on the vehicle and test AM/FM radio reception on multiple stations to confirm proper antenna function
- If equipped, verify satellite radio (SiriusXM) functionality
- Check for any water leaks around the antenna base during the next car wash or rain event
- Inspect the antenna from outside to ensure it is straight and properly seated
- Verify no rattles or loose components from the antenna or overhead console area
