Parts

  • Blower motor assembly × 1 — 97113-D3000 or equivalent
  • Blower motor resistor (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Plastic push clips (if broken) × 5 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn ignition off and remove key from vehicle
  3. Wait at least 3 minutes for airbag system capacitors to discharge
  4. Open passenger door fully for access
  5. Adjust passenger seat to full rearward position
  6. Ensure HVAC system is off and has cooled if recently used

Procedure

  1. 1
Remove lower passenger side trim panel
Locate the lower passenger side kick panel below the glove box. Remove any Phillips screws securing the panel (typically 2-3 screws). Carefully pull the panel away from the firewall using a trim tool to release plastic clips. Disconnect any courtesy light connectors if equipped. Set panel aside.
  2. 2
    Access blower motor cover
From the passenger footwell, look upward toward the firewall. Locate the rectangular blower motor cover secured by screws. You may need to remove or partially lower the side panel near the door sill for additional access. Use a work light to clearly see the fasteners.
  3. 3
    Remove blower motor cover
Remove the cover screws using an 8mm socket or Phillips screwdriver as applicable. There are typically 3-4 screws around the perimeter. Carefully lower the cover - it may be tight due to foam sealing. Keep screws organized for reinstallation.
  4. 4
    Disconnect blower motor electrical connector
Locate the electrical connector on the blower motor housing. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight off the motor terminals. Do not pull on the wires. If there is a separate resistor connector nearby, disconnect it as well by pressing its release tab.
  5. 5
    Remove blower motor mounting screws
Locate the three blower motor mounting screws around the motor housing flange. Use a Phillips screwdriver or 8mm socket to remove all three screws completely. Support the motor with one hand as you remove the final screw to prevent it from dropping.

  6. 6
    Extract blower motor assembly
Carefully rotate and lower the blower motor assembly out of the housing. The motor with fan cage attached is approximately 8 inches in diameter. Angle it as needed to clear the opening - you may need to tilt it clockwise and pull downward. If it binds, check that all screws are removed and that no wiring is caught.
  7. 7
    Inspect and clean housing
With the motor removed, inspect the blower housing for debris, leaves, or obstructions. Check the resistor for burn marks or damage. Remove any debris with a vacuum or compressed air. Inspect the foam seal on the motor for deterioration.
  8. 8
    Install new blower motor
Position the new blower motor assembly with the electrical connector tab facing the correct direction (typically toward the passenger side). Angle the motor and fan cage into the housing opening. Ensure the mounting flange is flush against the housing and all three screw holes align properly.
  9. 9
    Secure blower motor
Install the three blower motor mounting screws hand-tight first to ensure proper alignment. Then torque each screw in a cross pattern to specification using a torque wrench. Verify the motor sits flush with no gaps.

  10. 10
    Reconnect electrical connectors
Reconnect the blower motor electrical connector, ensuring it clicks into place securely. If the resistor was disconnected, reconnect it as well. Gently tug on connectors to verify they are locked.
  11. 11
    Reinstall blower motor cover
Position the blower motor cover back into place, ensuring any foam seal sits correctly. Install all cover screws and torque to specification in a cross pattern. Verify the cover sits flush against the housing.
  12. 12
    Reinstall trim panels
Reconnect any courtesy light connectors. Position the lower kick panel and press firmly to engage plastic clips. Install all trim panel screws and tighten securely but do not overtighten plastic fasteners. Return passenger seat to normal position.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked
  2. Verify all trim panels are securely fastened with no rattles
  3. Confirm no tools or parts are left in the passenger footwell area

Verification

  • Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine
  • Test blower motor at all four speed settings (Low, Medium, High speeds and High)
  • Verify smooth operation with no unusual noises, grinding, or squeaking
  • Check that air flow is strong and consistent at all speeds
  • Verify blower motor turns off completely when switched off
  • Listen for any air leaks around the blower motor cover indicating improper seal
  • Test HVAC system in both heat and A/C modes to ensure proper airflow distribution
