This procedure covers removal and replacement of the rear engine mount on a 2016-2024 Hyundai Tucson with the 2.5L I4 AWD engine.
Warnings
⚠️Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always use jack stands rated for the vehicle weight.
⚠️Ensure the engine is properly supported before removing mount bolts to prevent engine from dropping and causing injury or damage.
⚠Allow engine to cool completely before beginning work to avoid burn injuries.
⚠Improper torque specifications on engine mounts can cause vibration, premature mount failure, or engine misalignment.

Parts
- Rear engine mount assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level, solid surface and engage parking brake
- Place wheel chocks behind front wheels
- Allow engine to cool completely if recently operated
- Disconnect negative battery terminal to prevent electrical issues
- Raise vehicle front end with floor jack and secure on jack stands at manufacturer frame points
- Remove engine undercover or splash shield if equipped for access to mount area
Procedure
- 1Install engine supportPosition engine support bar across engine bay fender edges or position transmission jack under oil pan with wooden block as protection. Raise jack or tighten support bar until engine weight is slightly lifted, taking load off the rear mount. The engine should be just barely supported, not raised significantly.
- 2Access rear engine mountFrom underneath vehicle, locate the rear engine mount positioned between the engine block and rear subframe/crossmember. The mount is accessible from below and may be partially obscured by exhaust components or heat shields. Use work light for visibility.
- 3Remove mount through boltLocate and remove the large through bolt that passes through the center of the rear mount assembly. This bolt connects the mount bracket to the mount itself. Support the bolt as it is removed as it may be heavy. Note the orientation of any washers or spacers.Torque specMount Through Bolt88 Nm (65 lb-ft)
- 4Remove mount-to-frame boltsLocate the bolts securing the lower mount bracket to the subframe or crossmember. There are typically 2-3 bolts. Remove these bolts completely while supporting the mount assembly. Keep track of bolt locations if they are different sizes.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Frame Bolts75 Nm (55 lb-ft)
- 5Remove engine mount-to-block boltsFrom above or below depending on access, locate the bolts securing the upper mount bracket to the engine block or transmission bellhousing area. Remove these mounting bolts while ensuring the engine remains supported by the support bar or transmission jack.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Block Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
- 6Remove rear mount assemblyWith all bolts removed, carefully lower and remove the rear engine mount assembly from the vehicle. The mount may be stuck due to corrosion or alignment pins. Use a pry bar carefully if needed to break it free. Inspect the removed mount for damage, cracking, or separation of rubber from metal components.
- 7Inspect mounting surfacesClean mounting surfaces on both the engine block and subframe using a wire brush or scraper. Remove any rust, debris, or old gasket material. Check for cracks or damage to mounting points on the engine or frame. Verify alignment pins or locating features are not damaged.
- 8Install new rear mount assemblyPosition the new rear engine mount assembly into place, aligning it with the mounting points on both the engine block and subframe. Ensure any alignment pins or locating features are properly seated. The mount orientation is critical - verify upper and lower positions match the old mount.
- 9Install engine mount-to-block boltsThread in the engine mount-to-block bolts by hand first to ensure proper thread engagement. Once all bolts are started, tighten them to specification using a torque wrench in a cross-pattern if multiple bolts are present. Do not fully tighten mount through bolt yet.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Block Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
- 10Install mount-to-frame boltsInstall the lower mount bracket bolts that secure the mount to the subframe/crossmember. Start all bolts by hand, then torque to specification. Ensure the mount is properly seated against the frame before final torque.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Frame Bolts75 Nm (55 lb-ft)
- 11Install mount through boltInstall the mount through bolt with any washers or spacers in their original orientation. Thread the bolt by hand through the mount assembly, then torque to specification. This bolt should be tightened last to allow the mount to settle into its natural position.Torque specMount Through Bolt88 Nm (65 lb-ft)
- 12Remove engine support and lower vehicleCarefully remove the engine support bar or lower the transmission jack, allowing the engine weight to settle onto the new mount. Check that the engine sits level and the mount is not twisted or misaligned. Reinstall engine undercover or splash shield if removed. Lower vehicle from jack stands.
Reassembly
- Reinstall any covers, shields, or components removed for access
- Reconnect negative battery terminal
- Double-check all bolts are torqued to specification and no tools are left in engine bay
Verification
- Start engine and verify no abnormal vibration or movement
- Check that engine sits level and mount is not visibly deformed under load
- Test drive vehicle and verify smooth operation with no excessive engine movement during acceleration or deceleration
- Inspect mount installation from underneath after test drive to confirm all bolts remain tight and properly seated
