Warnings
⚠Allow headlights to cool for at least 10 minutes before working to prevent burns from hot bulb housing
⚠Do not touch the glass portion of the new bulb with bare hands as skin oils will cause premature bulb failure; use clean gloves or the protective sleeve
ℹ️This procedure covers the engine bay accessible headlight bulb replacement; some trim levels may have different access configurations

Parts
- H11 headlight bulb (low beam) or 9005 bulb (high beam) × 1 — Verify correct bulb type for your specific headlight position
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition
- Allow headlights to cool if recently operated
- Open hood and secure with prop rod
- Identify which bulb needs replacement (low beam or high beam) to determine access location
Procedure
- 1Locate headlight assembly access coverFrom the engine bay, locate the circular or oval rubber/plastic access cover on the rear of the headlight assembly. The low beam bulb is typically positioned closer to the inner fender, while the high beam is more centered. The cover will have tabs or a twist-lock design.
- 2Remove headlight access coverRotate the access cover counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn or pull the tab to release, then pull the cover straight back out of the headlight housing. Set the cover aside in a clean location to prevent contamination.
- 3Disconnect bulb electrical connectorPress the tab on the electrical connector and pull straight back to disconnect from the bulb base. Do not pull on the wires themselves. If the connector is tight, gently wiggle while pulling to release.
- 4Remove bulb retaining ringLocate the wire retaining clip or ring that secures the bulb in the housing. Press down slightly and rotate or unhook the retaining mechanism to release. On some models, this is a spring clip that needs to be pressed and moved aside. Note the orientation for reinstallation.Torque specBulb Retaining Ring5 Nm (4 lb-ft)
- 5Remove old bulbCarefully pull the bulb straight out of the headlight housing. Avoid twisting or forcing the bulb. If resistance is felt, verify the retaining ring is fully released. Inspect the old bulb for signs of damage or moisture in the housing.
- 6Install new bulbUsing a clean cloth or wearing clean gloves, remove the new bulb from its protective packaging. Insert the bulb into the housing ensuring the alignment tabs match the slots in the housing. Push the bulb fully into place until it seats against the housing gasket.
- 7Secure bulb retaining ringReinstall the wire retaining clip or ring by hooking it over the bulb base and rotating or snapping it into the locked position. Ensure the retaining mechanism fully engages and the bulb cannot move. Apply torque specification if using threaded retaining ring design.Torque specBulb Retaining Ring5 Nm (4 lb-ft)
- 8Reconnect electrical connectorPush the electrical connector firmly onto the bulb base until it clicks into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully seated and locked.
- 9Reinstall access coverAlign the access cover with the opening in the headlight housing. Insert the cover and rotate clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks, or press firmly until tabs engage. Ensure the seal is properly seated to prevent moisture intrusion.
Reassembly
- Verify access cover is fully seated and locked to maintain weatherproof seal
- Ensure no tools or parts are left in the engine bay
- Close hood securely
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position and activate headlights to verify new bulb illuminates properly
- Test both low beam and high beam functions to ensure correct operation
- Check for proper beam pattern and alignment; bulb should be seated correctly with no dark spots or unusual patterns
- Inspect access cover area for any gaps or improper sealing that could allow moisture entry
- Verify no warning lights appear on the instrument cluster related to headlight malfunction
