Tools required

Panel removal tool set (trim tools)Essential
Phillips screwdriverEssential
Flat-blade screwdriver (wrapped in tape)
Socket set with ratchet
Torque wrench (5-15 Nm range)

Parts

  • Dashboard speaker (tweeter) × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Retaining clips (if damaged) × 2 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn ignition off and remove key
  3. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 3 minutes minimum
  4. Allow interior to cool if vehicle was recently driven in hot weather
  5. Gather all tools and replacement parts

Procedure

  1. 1
    Locate dashboard speaker grille
The dashboard speaker (tweeter) is located at the upper corner of the dashboard near the A-pillar on each side. Identify which speaker requires replacement. The grille is a small triangular or rounded piece of trim that covers the speaker.
  2. 2
    Remove speaker grille trim
Insert a panel removal tool at the rear edge of the speaker grille (closest to windshield). Gently pry upward to release the retaining clips. Work your way around the perimeter if necessary. The grille typically has 2-3 clips holding it in place. Lift the grille away from the dashboard once all clips are released.
  3. 3
    Remove speaker mounting screws
With the grille removed, you will see the speaker assembly. Remove the Phillips head screws securing the speaker to the dashboard mounting bracket. Most Tucson models use 2-3 screws. Keep screws in a safe location for reinstallation.

  4. 4
    Disconnect speaker electrical connector
Carefully pull the speaker forward enough to access the electrical connector on the back. Press the release tab on the connector and pull the connector away from the speaker. Do not pull on the wires themselves. Set the old speaker aside.
  5. 5
    Connect new speaker
Take the new speaker and connect the electrical connector to the speaker terminals. Ensure the connector locks into place with an audible click. Verify the connection is secure by gently tugging on the connector housing (not wires).
  6. 6
    Install new speaker
Position the new speaker into the mounting location, ensuring all screw holes align properly. Install the mounting screws and tighten to specification using a Phillips screwdriver or torque wrench. Do not overtighten as the speaker housing is plastic.

  7. 7
    Reinstall speaker grille
Align the speaker grille with the dashboard opening. Press firmly around the perimeter to seat all retaining clips. Verify the grille is flush with the surrounding dashboard surface and all clips are fully engaged.
  8. 8
    Reconnect battery and test
Reconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten to specification. Turn the ignition to ON position (engine off) and test the speaker by adjusting the audio balance and fade settings to direct sound to the replaced speaker. Test various volume levels and audio sources.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all trim panels are properly seated and clips are fully engaged
  2. Verify no gaps exist between grille and dashboard surface
  3. Check that no tools or hardware were left in dashboard area

Verification

  • Test speaker function across full volume range without distortion or rattling
  • Verify speaker grille is secure and flush with dashboard
  • Confirm all audio channels work correctly using balance and fade controls
  • Check for any dashboard rattles or loose trim panels
  • Verify no warning lights are illuminated on instrument cluster
