Parts
- Sunroof switch assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn ignition to OFF position and remove key
- Allow interior to cool if vehicle has been in direct sunlight to prevent trim damage
- Disconnect negative battery terminal if performing electrical testing or if switch has exhibited erratic behavior
Procedure
- 1Access overhead consoleUsing a plastic trim removal tool, carefully insert the tool at the rear edge of the overhead console trim (near the rear dome light). Gently pry downward to release the retaining clips. Work your way forward along both sides, releasing clips as you go. There are typically 4-6 clips holding the console in place.
- 2Lower overhead consoleOnce all clips are released, carefully lower the overhead console assembly. Do not pull it completely away yet as the sunroof switch, dome lights, and other electrical connectors are still attached. Let it hang at approximately a 45-degree angle to access the rear of the switch.
- 3Disconnect sunroof switch connectorLocate the sunroof switch electrical connector on the back of the console. Press the locking tab on the connector and pull it straight out from the switch. Note the connector orientation for reinstallation. If the connector is tight, gently wiggle it while pulling to avoid damaging the terminals.
- 4Remove sunroof switch from consoleThe sunroof switch is typically held in place by two small retaining tabs or clips on the sides. Using your fingers or a small flathead screwdriver, gently press the tabs inward while pushing the switch out from the front of the console. Some models may have small screws instead - if present, remove them before attempting to release the switch.
- 5Install new sunroof switchPosition the new sunroof switch in the console opening, ensuring it is oriented correctly (the switch graphics should match the vehicle's sunroof operation). Press firmly until the retaining tabs click into place. Verify the switch is flush with the console trim and does not rattle or move when touched.
- 6Reconnect electrical connectorAlign the electrical connector with the back of the new switch and press firmly until you hear or feel a positive click. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully seated and locked in place.
- 7Reinstall overhead consolePosition the overhead console back into the headliner, ensuring all wiring is properly routed and not pinched. Align the console with the headliner opening and press firmly around the perimeter to engage all retaining clips. You should hear distinct clicks as each clip seats properly.
Reassembly
- Reconnect negative battery terminal if it was disconnected, using 6.0 Nm (4.0 lb-ft) torque specification
- If battery was disconnected, perform window auto-up/down relearn procedure by fully lowering each window, then fully raising and holding the switch up for 2 seconds
- Verify all overhead console functions operate correctly including dome lights and garage door opener if equipped
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine
- Test sunroof tilt function by pressing rear of switch - sunroof should tilt up and down smoothly
- Test sunroof slide function by pressing front of switch - sunroof should open and close fully with auto-close feature working if equipped
- Verify sunroof stops at the vent position when switch is briefly pressed
- Confirm switch illumination works when headlights are turned on
- Check that overhead console trim is flush and all clips are fully engaged with no gaps or rattles
