Replace both front sway bar links (stabilizer links) to eliminate clunking noises and restore proper suspension performance on 2016-2024 Hyundai Tucson 2.5L AWD models.
Warnings
⚠️Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always use jack stands rated for the vehicle weight.
⚠Sway bar links are under tension when vehicle is at rest. Control the link during removal to prevent sudden movement.
ℹ️Corroded hardware is common on sway bar links. Apply penetrating oil 15-30 minutes before starting if vehicle has salt exposure.

Parts
- Front sway bar link - left × 1 — 54830-D3000 or aftermarket equivalent
- Front sway bar link - right × 1 — 54830-D3000 or aftermarket equivalent
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Place wheel chocks behind rear wheels
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts while vehicle is on ground (do not remove)
- Lift front of vehicle with floor jack at manufacturer-approved jacking points
- Support vehicle securely on jack stands under front subframe
- Remove both front wheels completely
- Spray penetrating oil on sway bar link nuts if hardware appears corroded
Procedure
- 1Access the front sway bar linksLocate the sway bar links connecting the front sway bar to the lower control arms on both sides. The links are vertical components with ball joints at each end. Inspect the rubber boots for tears and check for excessive play before removal.
- 2Remove driver side upper nutOn the driver side link, locate the upper connection point where the link attaches to the sway bar. Insert a 6mm Allen key into the top of the ball stud shaft to hold it stationary. Use a 14mm wrench to remove the upper nut while preventing the shaft from spinning with the Allen key. Set the nut aside.
- 3Remove driver side lower nutMove to the lower connection point where the link attaches to the control arm. Again insert the 6mm Allen key into the ball stud shaft to hold it. Use the 14mm wrench to remove the lower nut. Remove the old sway bar link from the vehicle. Note the orientation of any washers or bushings.
- 4Install new driver side linkPosition the new driver side sway bar link between the sway bar and control arm. Ensure any washers or bushings are properly oriented to match the original configuration. Thread the upper nut onto the sway bar attachment point by hand, then thread the lower nut onto the control arm attachment point by hand. Do not fully tighten yet.
- 5Torque driver side link nutsUsing the 6mm Allen key to hold each ball stud shaft stationary, torque both the upper and lower nuts to specification. Start with the upper connection, then torque the lower connection. Verify the link moves freely without binding.Torque specSway Bar Link Nuts55 Nm (41 lb-ft)
- 6Remove passenger side upper nutRepeat the removal process on the passenger side. Insert the 6mm Allen key into the upper ball stud shaft and remove the upper nut with the 14mm wrench while holding the shaft stationary.
- 7Remove passenger side lower nutHold the lower ball stud shaft with the Allen key and remove the lower nut with the 14mm wrench. Remove the old passenger side sway bar link from the vehicle.
- 8Install new passenger side linkInstall the new passenger side sway bar link in the same manner as the driver side. Thread both upper and lower nuts by hand, ensuring proper orientation of all components. Verify the link is seated correctly at both connection points.
- 9Torque passenger side link nutsHold each ball stud shaft with the 6mm Allen key and torque both nuts to specification using the torque wrench and 14mm socket. Check that the link articulates smoothly without excessive play.Torque specSway Bar Link Nuts55 Nm (41 lb-ft)
- 10Reinstall wheels and lower vehicleReinstall both front wheels and thread lug nuts by hand. Lower the vehicle carefully from the jack stands using the floor jack. Once wheels contact the ground but vehicle is not fully loaded, torque lug nuts to 107-127 Nm (79-94 lb-ft) in a star pattern. Fully lower vehicle and remove jack.
Reassembly
- Verify all fasteners are properly torqued and no tools or parts are left in wheel wells
- Double-check that both sway bar links move freely and are not binding at either connection point
- Remove wheel chocks and test drive vehicle at low speed to verify repair
Verification
- Test drive vehicle over speed bumps and uneven pavement at low speed (under 25 mph) to verify clunking noise is eliminated
- Perform full lock turns in both directions to ensure no binding or interference
- Visually inspect both links after test drive to confirm nuts remain tight and properly seated
- Listen for any unusual noises during cornering that might indicate improper installation
