This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the rear window motor and regulator assembly on a 2016-2024 Hyundai Tucson with 2.5L I4 AWD engine.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Disconnect battery negative terminal and wait 3 minutes for system discharge
3. Roll rear window to approximately 1/3 up position if functional before disconnecting battery
4. Ensure all tools and replacement parts are readily accessible
5. Protect surrounding interior surfaces with clean shop towels

Procedure

   Remove rear door trim panel
   Remove the phillips screw from the interior door handle bezel. Use trim removal tools to carefully pry off the door handle trim cover. Remove any visible screws from the bottom of the door panel. Using door panel clip removal tools, work around the perimeter of the panel to release the retaining clips. Lift the panel upward and away from the door frame to disengage the top retaining hooks.

   Disconnect door panel electrical connectors
   Locate and disconnect the electrical connector for the window switch module by pressing the release tab and pulling straight out. Disconnect any other electrical connectors for rear door controls (lock switch, speaker, etc.). Set the door panel aside in a safe location.

   Remove vapor barrier
   Carefully peel back the plastic vapor barrier from the door frame. Take care not to tear the barrier as it will need to be resealed. If the barrier tears, plan to replace the adhesive or use new barrier material. Fold the barrier back to expose the window regulator and motor assembly.

   Secure window glass
   Use masking tape to secure the window glass to the door frame in the raised position, or have an assistant support the glass. If the window is not at the correct height, you will need to reconnect battery temporarily to adjust position, then disconnect again before proceeding.
   ⚠Ensure glass is properly supported before proceeding to prevent it from falling into the door cavity

   Disconnect window motor electrical connector
   Locate the window motor electrical connector inside the door cavity. Press the connector release tab and disconnect the harness from the motor. Route the connector away from the work area.

   Detach window glass from regulator
   Locate the two 10mm bolts securing the window glass to the regulator lift channel inside the door. Remove these bolts while supporting the glass. Carefully lift the glass upward and out of the regulator channel, then secure it in the fully raised position with tape to the door frame.

   Remove regulator and motor mounting bolts
   Identify all regulator mounting points (typically 3-4 mounting bolts). Remove the motor mounting bolts (typically 3 bolts at 8.0 Nm specification). Remove the regulator track mounting bolts. Keep track of bolt locations as they may be different lengths.

   Extract regulator assembly from door
   Carefully maneuver the window regulator and motor assembly through the access opening in the door frame. You may need to rotate and angle the assembly to clear internal door structures. Guide the regulator track and arms through the opening without damaging door components or paint.

   Install new regulator assembly
   Guide the new window regulator and motor assembly into the door cavity through the access opening. Position the regulator tracks and mounting points to align with the factory mounting locations. Use previously marked positions to ensure correct alignment.

    Secure regulator mounting bolts
    Install and hand-tighten all regulator mounting bolts in their correct locations. Torque the motor mounting bolts to specification using a torque wrench. Ensure the regulator tracks are properly positioned and parallel before final tightening.

    Reconnect window glass to regulator
    Lower the window glass into the regulator lift channel. Align the mounting holes in the glass bracket with the regulator channel. Install the two 10mm glass mounting bolts and tighten securely. Remove any tape holding the glass in position.

    Connect electrical and test operation
    Connect the window motor electrical connector. Temporarily reconnect the battery negative terminal and torque to specification. Test window operation through full up and down cycles to verify smooth operation and proper alignment. Check for any binding or unusual noises. Disconnect battery again before proceeding.

    Reinstall vapor barrier and door panel
    Reposition and reseal the vapor barrier to the door frame, ensuring complete coverage and adhesion around all edges. Reconnect all electrical connectors to the door panel. Align the door panel with the door frame, engage the top hooks first, then press firmly around the perimeter to seat all retaining clips. Reinstall any screws removed during disassembly.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked
2. Verify vapor barrier is completely sealed to prevent moisture intrusion
3. Confirm all door panel clips are properly engaged before moving to final testing
4. Reconnect battery negative terminal and torque to 6.0 Nm

Verification

• Test window operation through multiple complete up and down cycles
• Verify window raises and lowers smoothly without binding or hesitation
• Check that window seals properly at the top position without gaps
• Confirm window auto-up and auto-down functions work correctly (if equipped)
• Listen for any abnormal noises during window operation
• Verify all door panel switches and controls function properly
• Check that door panel is secure with no rattles or loose clips
