Work light or headlamp

Parts

  • Fog light assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification or compatible aftermarket
  • Fog light bulb (if not included with assembly) × 1 — H10 bulb or use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn off all lights and remove key from ignition
  3. Allow engine and exhaust components to cool completely
  4. Determine which fog light requires replacement (driver or passenger side)
  5. For easier access, turn steering wheel full lock away from the side being serviced

Procedure

  1. 1
    Access fog light assembly
From under the front bumper, locate the fog light assembly on the affected side. The fog light is mounted in the bumper fascia near the corner. You may need to reach through the wheel well opening or work from underneath the vehicle for best access.
  2. 2
    Disconnect electrical connector
Locate the electrical connector at the rear of the fog light assembly. Press the release tab on the connector and pull it straight back to disconnect. If the connector is difficult to reach, you may need to carefully manipulate it through the wheel well area.
  3. 3
    Remove fog light mounting fasteners
Locate the mounting screws or clips securing the fog light assembly to the bumper. On most JK models, there are typically two or three mounting points. Use a 10mm socket or flathead screwdriver as needed to remove the fasteners. Keep track of all hardware for reinstallation.
  4. 4
    Extract fog light assembly
Carefully pull the fog light assembly forward and out of the bumper opening. You may need to rotate or angle the assembly slightly to clear the mounting tabs and bumper structure. If the assembly is stuck, gently wiggle it while pulling forward to break any corrosion seal.
  5. 5
    Inspect mounting location and clean
Examine the bumper mounting area for any damage, cracks, or broken tabs. Clean any dirt, debris, or corrosion from the mounting surface and electrical connector area using a clean rag. This ensures proper sealing and electrical contact for the new assembly.
  6. 6
    Prepare new fog light assembly
Remove the new fog light assembly from packaging and inspect for shipping damage. If the bulb is not pre-installed, install the correct H10 bulb into the new assembly by rotating the bulb socket counterclockwise to remove, inserting new bulb, and rotating clockwise to lock. Do not touch the glass portion of the bulb with bare hands.
  7. 7
    Install new fog light assembly
Carefully insert the new fog light assembly into the bumper opening, ensuring it is oriented correctly with the mounting tabs aligned. Push the assembly into position until it seats fully against the bumper. The lens should be flush with the bumper surface.
  8. 8
    Secure mounting fasteners
Install the mounting screws or clips to secure the fog light assembly to the bumper. Tighten screws evenly to avoid cracking the housing. If using the original mounting screws, torque to 12.0 Nm (9.0 lb-ft) per Cover Screws specification. Ensure the assembly is firmly mounted without excessive movement.

    Cover Screws12 Nm (9 lb-ft)
  9. 9
    Reconnect electrical connector
Push the electrical connector firmly onto the back of the fog light assembly until you hear or feel it click into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully seated and locked.
  10. 10
    Test fog light operation
Turn the ignition to the ON position (engine does not need to run). Activate the fog light switch to verify the new fog light illuminates properly. Check for proper beam pattern and ensure the light is not flickering. Turn off fog lights and ignition when test is complete.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all mounting fasteners are properly tightened and the fog light assembly is secure
  2. Verify electrical connector is fully locked in place
  3. Return steering wheel to center position if it was turned for access

Verification

  • Test fog lights with ignition ON to confirm proper illumination
  • Verify the fog light assembly is flush with bumper surface and properly aligned
  • Check that there is no rattling or movement of the fog light assembly
  • Inspect fog light at night or in a dark area to ensure proper beam pattern and no light leakage around the housing
