This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the interior fuse box (Integrated Power Module) located in the driver's side dashboard area of the 2012-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK with 3.6L V6 engine.
Warnings
⚠️Always disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait at least 2 minutes before working on any electrical components to allow capacitors to discharge and prevent airbag deployment
⚠The interior fuse box controls critical vehicle systems including airbags, ABS, and body control functions. Document all connector positions and fuse locations before removal
⚠Never force electrical connectors. They have specific locking mechanisms that must be released properly to avoid damage
ℹ️Take detailed photos of all connectors and wiring harness routing before disassembly for reference during reassembly

Parts
- Interior fuse box / Integrated Power Module (IPM) × 1 — 68105502AC or equivalent OEM
- Fuse box cover × 1 — Use existing or OEM replacement
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
- Turn ignition to OFF position and remove key
- Open driver's door and leave it open for access
- Photograph or document all fuse positions and any customer-reported electrical issues
- Gather all tools and the replacement fuse box if applicable
Procedure
- 1Disconnect battery negative terminalOpen the hood and locate the battery in the engine compartment. Using a 10mm socket, loosen and remove the negative battery terminal bolt. Remove the negative cable from the battery post and secure it away from the terminal. Wait at least 2 minutes for system capacitors to discharge.⚠️Always disconnect negative terminal first to prevent short circuitsTorque specBattery Terminal Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 2Remove lower dashboard panelFrom inside the vehicle on the driver's side, locate the lower dashboard panel beneath the steering column. Remove the panel screws using an 8mm socket or appropriate driver. Gently pull the panel away, releasing any retaining clips. Set the panel aside in a safe location.
- 3Remove fuse box coverLocate the interior fuse box on the driver's side end of the dashboard. Release the cover by pressing the tab at the bottom and pulling the cover outward. Remove the cover completely to expose the fuses and relays. Keep the cover and any attached fuse diagram for reference.
- 4Document and remove fuses and relaysPhotograph the fuse box showing all installed fuses and relays in their current positions. Using the fuse puller tool (located in the fuse box) or needle-nose pliers, carefully remove all fuses and relays. Place them in an organized manner matching their original positions, or label them individually.
- 5Remove knee bolster and access panelsRemove the knee bolster panel below the steering column by removing the mounting screws. Remove any additional trim panels necessary to access the back side of the fuse box. This may include the side dashboard end cap on the driver's door jamb side.
- 6Disconnect electrical connectorsWorking from behind the fuse box, locate all electrical connectors attached to the back of the IPM. There are typically 4-6 large multi-pin connectors. Each connector has a locking tab or slider mechanism. Press or slide the lock release while gently pulling the connector straight back. Label each connector position with tape and marker, or refer to your photographs.⚠Connectors require significant but controlled force. Rock them gently while pulling to avoid bending pins
- 7Remove ground connectionsLocate any ground straps or ground wires connected to the fuse box mounting bracket. Using a 10mm socket, remove the ground strap bolt(s). Clean the contact surfaces with a wire brush or contact cleaner to ensure good electrical contact during reassembly.ℹ️Clean contact surfaces as specified in torque specifications to ensure proper groundingTorque specGround Strap Bolt16 Nm (12 lb-ft)
- 8Remove fuse box mounting fastenersLocate the mounting bolts securing the fuse box to the dashboard structure. There are typically 3-4 bolts accessible from different angles. Use a 10mm socket with extensions and universal joints as needed to access all mounting points. Remove all mounting bolts completely.Torque specMounting Bolts39 Nm (29 lb-ft)
- 9Remove interior fuse boxWith all connectors and mounting bolts removed, carefully maneuver the fuse box out of the dashboard opening. The unit may need to be tilted or rotated to clear surrounding structures. Work slowly to avoid snagging any remaining wiring.
- 10Inspect and prepare new fuse boxIf installing a replacement fuse box, inspect all connector terminals on the new unit for damage or debris. Compare the new unit to the old one to verify correct part number and connector configuration. Inspect the mounting bracket area in the dashboard and clean if necessary.
- 11Install new fuse boxPosition the new or serviced fuse box into the dashboard opening, routing it carefully past any wiring or structures. Align the mounting holes with the dashboard bracket. Start all mounting bolts by hand to ensure proper alignment before tightening.
- 12Torque mounting boltsUsing a torque wrench, tighten all fuse box mounting bolts to specification in a cross pattern to ensure even seating. Verify the fuse box is securely mounted and does not move when pressure is applied.Torque specMounting Bolts39 Nm (29 lb-ft)
- 13Reconnect ground connectionsInstall the ground strap(s) to the fuse box mounting bracket or designated ground point. Ensure contact surfaces are clean and free of paint or corrosion. Torque the ground strap bolt(s) to specification.Torque specGround Strap Bolt16 Nm (12 lb-ft)
- 14Reconnect electrical connectorsWorking from your photographs or labels, reconnect each electrical connector to the back of the fuse box in the correct position. Push each connector firmly until you hear or feel the locking mechanism engage. Tug gently on each connector to verify it is locked in place.
- 15Reinstall fuses and relaysUsing your documentation or the fuse diagram, reinstall all fuses and relays into their correct positions in the fuse box. Ensure each fuse and relay is fully seated in its socket.
- 16Reconnect battery and initialize systemsReturn to the engine compartment and reconnect the negative battery terminal. Torque the battery terminal bolt to specification. Do not overtighten as this can damage the battery post.⚠Battery terminal bolts are low torque - overtightening will damage the battery postTorque specBattery Terminal Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Reinstall the fuse box cover by aligning the tabs and pressing until it clicks into place
- Reinstall all dashboard trim panels, knee bolster, and lower panels in reverse order of removal
- Ensure all panel clips are properly engaged and screws are tightened securely but not overtightened
- Close all doors and hood
Verification
- Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start) and verify the instrument cluster illuminates normally with no unusual warning lights
- Check that all interior lights, power windows, door locks, and other electrical accessories function properly
- Start the engine and verify normal operation with no warning lights except those that normally illuminate briefly at startup
- Test critical systems including turn signals, headlights, brake lights, windshield wipers, and HVAC blower
- Use a scan tool to check for any stored diagnostic trouble codes related to the fuse box or electrical system
- Verify the airbag warning light follows normal startup sequence (illuminates briefly then extinguishes)
- Test all power accessories and verify proper operation before returning vehicle to service
