Parts
- Headlight assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification or DOT/SAE approved replacement
- Headlight bulb (if not included with assembly) × 1 — H13 9008 bulb
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn off headlights and remove key from ignition
- Allow headlights to cool for at least 10 minutes if recently used
- Open hood and secure with hood prop
Procedure
- 1Disconnect headlight electrical connectorLocate the headlight electrical connector at the rear of the headlight assembly. Press the release tab and pull the connector straight back to disconnect it from the headlight bulb socket. If the connector is tight, gently wiggle while pulling to release.
- 2Remove headlight bulb retaining ringRotate the bulb retaining ring counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn to unlock it. Pull the retaining ring and bulb assembly straight out from the headlight housing. Set aside in a safe location if reusing the bulb.
- 3Remove headlight mounting boltsLocate the four 10mm mounting bolts securing the headlight assembly to the fender and grille. These are positioned around the perimeter of the headlight housing. Remove all four bolts using a 10mm socket and ratchet. Keep bolts organized for reinstallation.Torque specMounting Bolts39 Nm (29 lb-ft)
- 4Remove headlight assemblyCarefully pull the headlight assembly straight forward from the mounting position. The assembly may require gentle wiggling to release from alignment pins. Support the assembly with both hands to prevent dropping. Inspect the mounting surface and alignment pins for damage or corrosion.
- 5Install new headlight assemblyPosition the new headlight assembly, aligning it with the mounting pins and ensuring proper fit against the fender and grille. The assembly should sit flush with no gaps. Verify all alignment tabs are properly engaged before installing bolts.
- 6Install and torque mounting boltsHand-thread all four mounting bolts to prevent cross-threading. Tighten bolts in a cross pattern (top-left, bottom-right, top-right, bottom-left) to ensure even seating. Torque all mounting bolts to specification using a torque wrench.Torque specMounting Bolts39 Nm (29 lb-ft)
- 7Install headlight bulbIf installing a new bulb, use gloves or clean cloth to handle it. Insert the bulb into the headlight housing, aligning the tabs with the slots. Install the retaining ring and rotate clockwise 1/4 turn until it locks into place. Ensure the retaining ring is fully seated.
- 8Reconnect electrical connectorAlign the electrical connector with the bulb socket and push firmly until the locking tab clicks into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is securely locked. Ensure no wires are pinched or stressed.
Reassembly
- Verify headlight assembly is flush with body panels and properly aligned with opposite side
- Check that all four mounting bolts are torqued to specification
- Ensure electrical connector is fully engaged with audible click
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position and activate headlights to verify low beam operation
- Activate high beams to verify proper function
- Test turn signals on the replaced side to ensure no interference with headlight installation
- Visually inspect headlight alignment - both headlights should point in same direction. Professional headlight aiming may be required
- Check for any gaps between headlight assembly and body panels
- Verify no moisture or condensation inside new headlight assembly
