Replace the high pressure power steering hose between the power steering pump and steering rack on a 2015 Kia Forte with 1.8L I4 engine.
Warnings
⚠Power steering fluid is slippery and can cause falls. Clean up spills immediately.
⚠Allow engine to cool completely before starting work to avoid burns from hot fluid.
ℹ️Power steering fluid will drain from both the hose and reservoir when disconnected. Have adequate catch containers ready.

Parts
- High pressure power steering hose × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Power steering line O-rings × 2 — Included with hose or purchase separately
Fluids
- Kia PSF-4 — 1 qt
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Place wheel chocks behind rear wheels
- Allow engine to cool completely if recently driven
- Raise front of vehicle with floor jack and support on jack stands
- Remove engine under cover if equipped (remove cover screws)
- Place drain pan under steering rack area
Procedure
- 1Remove power steering fluid from reservoirUse a turkey baster or fluid extractor to remove as much power steering fluid as possible from the reservoir. This minimizes spillage when disconnecting the hose. Dispose of used fluid properly.
- 2Disconnect high pressure hose at power steering pumpLocate the high pressure hose connection at the power steering pump on the driver's side of the engine. Use a flare nut wrench to loosen the fitting at the pump. Position drain pan to catch fluid. Carefully remove the hose and allow fluid to drain. Remove and discard the old O-ring from the fitting.⚠Use a flare nut wrench to prevent rounding off the soft brass fitting. Do not use standard open-end wrenches.
- 3Disconnect high pressure hose at steering rackTrace the high pressure hose down to the steering rack connection on the passenger side of the vehicle. Position drain pan under the connection point. Use a flare nut wrench to loosen and remove the fitting from the steering rack. Allow remaining fluid to drain completely. Remove and discard the old O-ring from the fitting.
- 4Remove hose routing clips and bracketsNote the exact routing of the high pressure hose for installation reference. Remove any clips, brackets, or retainers securing the hose to the engine bay. Carefully extract the old hose from the vehicle, being careful not to damage surrounding components.
- 5Prepare new high pressure hoseInspect the new high pressure hose to ensure it matches the old hose exactly. Install new O-rings on both fittings (pump end and rack end). Lightly lubricate the new O-rings with clean power steering fluid to prevent damage during installation.
- 6Route and position new hoseRoute the new high pressure hose through the engine bay following the same path as the original hose. Ensure the hose is not kinked, twisted, or in contact with sharp edges or hot engine components. Verify adequate clearance from the exhaust manifold and other heat sources.
- 7Connect hose to steering rackThread the fitting into the steering rack by hand to ensure proper thread engagement. Once hand-tight, use a flare nut wrench and torque wrench to tighten the fitting to specification. Ensure the new O-ring remains properly seated.Torque specPower Steering Line Fittings30 Nm (22 lb-ft)

- 9Secure hose routingReinstall all clips, brackets, and retainers to secure the high pressure hose in its proper position. Double-check that the hose has adequate clearance from moving components, heat sources, and sharp edges throughout its routing path.
- 10Fill and bleed power steering systemFill the power steering reservoir to the MAX or COLD mark with fresh Kia PSF-4 fluid. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel slowly lock-to-lock 5-10 times without holding at full lock. Stop engine and check fluid level, adding as needed. Repeat process until fluid level stabilizes and no air bubbles are visible in the reservoir. Check for leaks at both hose connections.⚠Do not hold steering wheel at full lock for more than 5 seconds as this can damage the power steering pump.
- 11Reinstall under cover and lower vehicleReinstall the engine under cover if equipped and tighten cover screws to specification. Remove jack stands and carefully lower the vehicle to the ground.Torque specCover Screws10 Nm (8 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Ensure all hose connections are torqued to specification with new O-rings installed
- Verify hose routing matches original path with proper clearances
- Check power steering fluid level after bleeding procedure
- Clean up any spilled power steering fluid from engine bay and undercarriage
Verification
- Start engine and verify no leaks at pump or rack connections while engine is running
- Turn steering wheel lock-to-lock and verify smooth operation without noise or binding
- Recheck power steering fluid level with engine at operating temperature
- Test drive vehicle to confirm normal power steering assist and no fluid leaks
- Perform final inspection under vehicle for any drips or seepage after test drive
