This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the 12V battery in a 2017 Maserati Levante with 3.0L V6 Twin Turbo engine, including proper disconnection sequence and system reinitialization.

Preparation

1. Ensure vehicle is parked on level ground with ignition off and key removed from vehicle.
2. Allow engine to cool if recently operated.
3. Locate battery in engine compartment on right side (passenger side).
4. If using a battery memory saver, connect it now according to manufacturer instructions before disconnecting battery.
5. Identify and note any electronic module configurations that may need reprogramming after battery replacement.

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove battery cover
   Remove the plastic battery cover by lifting it upward. It is held by clips and does not require tools. Set cover aside in a clean area.

   Disconnect negative battery terminal
   Using a 10mm socket, loosen the negative (-) battery terminal bolt. Do not remove the bolt completely, just loosen it enough to release the clamp. Carefully remove the negative terminal from the battery post using a battery terminal puller if needed. Position the cable away from the battery post to prevent accidental contact.

   Disconnect positive battery terminal
   Using a 10mm socket, loosen the positive (+) battery terminal bolt. Remove the positive terminal from the battery post and position it away from the battery. Cover the positive terminal with a non-conductive cloth or plastic to prevent accidental short circuit.

   Remove battery hold-down bracket
   Using a 13mm socket, remove the battery hold-down bolt that secures the battery retention bracket. The bracket spans across the top of the battery. Remove the bracket and set aside.

   Remove old battery
   Carefully lift the battery straight up and out of the battery tray. The battery weighs approximately 45-50 lbs. Use proper lifting technique with bent knees and straight back. Inspect the battery tray for corrosion or damage.

   Clean battery tray and terminals
   Clean the battery tray of any corrosion, dirt, or debris using a suitable cleaner and cloth. Clean both battery cable terminals using a wire brush or battery terminal cleaner to remove any oxidation or corrosion. Ensure terminals are clean and bright.

   Install new battery
   Place the new battery into the battery tray, ensuring it is seated fully and correctly oriented with positive terminal on the left side (driver side) and negative on the right. Verify the battery is sitting level in the tray.

   Install battery hold-down bracket
   Position the battery hold-down bracket across the top of the battery and install the hold-down bolt. Torque the bolt to specification. Ensure the bracket securely holds the battery without over-compressing it.

   Connect positive battery terminal
   Apply a thin coat of dielectric grease to the positive battery post if desired. Position the positive terminal onto the positive post, ensuring it is fully seated. Install and hand-tighten the terminal bolt, then torque to specification using a torque wrench. Do not exceed specified torque as this will crack the terminal.
   ⚠Do not overtighten terminal bolt - fragile terminal will crack. Use torque wrench and verify 6.0 Nm (4.0 lb-ft) exactly.

    Connect negative battery terminal
    Apply a thin coat of dielectric grease to the negative battery post if desired. Position the negative terminal onto the negative post, ensuring it is fully seated. Install and hand-tighten the terminal bolt, then torque to specification using a torque wrench.

    Reinstall battery cover
    Position the battery cover over the battery and press down firmly until the clips engage and the cover is secure.

Reassembly

1. Verify all tools and materials have been removed from the engine compartment.
2. Ensure battery terminals are tight and secure with proper torque applied.
3. Battery cover must be properly clipped in place for proper ventilation routing.

Verification

• Turn ignition to ON position (do not start) and verify dashboard illuminates normally without warning lights remaining on abnormally.
• Start the engine and verify it cranks and starts normally.
• Check that all electrical systems function properly including lights, windows, infotainment system, and climate control.
• Verify battery voltage reads approximately 12.6-12.8V with engine off and 13.5-14.5V with engine running using a multimeter.
• Reset clock and reprogram radio presets and seat memory positions as needed.
• If service reminder or battery management system warning appears, it may require dealer-level diagnostics to register new battery with the vehicle's computer system.
