This procedure covers the removal and installation of both left and right headlight assemblies on a 2014 Ram 2500 with 6.7L Cummins diesel engine, including disconnection of electrical connectors and securing hardware.

Preparation

Procedure

   Remove driver side grille opening panel section
   Remove the plastic push pin retainers securing the upper grille panel section above the driver side headlight. Use a panel removal tool or flathead screwdriver to carefully pry the center pin up, then remove the entire retainer. There are typically 2-3 retainers per side. Pull the panel section forward to release any clips and set aside.

   Disconnect driver side headlight electrical connectors
   Locate the main headlight connector at the rear of the driver side headlight assembly. Press the release tab and pull the connector straight back from the bulb housing. If equipped with daytime running lights or adaptive headlight module, disconnect those connectors as well. Note the routing of the wiring harness for reinstallation.
   ⚠Do not pull on wires; always grasp the connector body to prevent wire damage.

   Remove driver side headlight mounting bolts
   Locate the three mounting bolts securing the driver side headlight assembly. There is typically one bolt at the top outer corner (10mm), one at the top inner corner near the grille (10mm), and one at the lower outer corner accessed from above (8mm or 10mm depending on configuration). Remove all three mounting bolts completely and set aside.

   Remove driver side headlight assembly
   Carefully pull the driver side headlight assembly forward and outward from the mounting position. The assembly may have alignment pins at the bottom that need to be disengaged. Tilt the assembly as needed to clear any obstructions and remove completely. Inspect the mounting area for any damaged clips or alignment pins.

   Remove passenger side grille opening panel section
   Repeat the removal process for the passenger side upper grille panel section. Remove the plastic push pin retainers and pull the panel section forward to release clips. On some models, the passenger side may require removal of additional trim near the battery area.

   Disconnect passenger side headlight electrical connectors
   Access the rear of the passenger side headlight assembly. Press the release tab on the main headlight connector and disconnect. If equipped with additional modules (daytime running lights, adaptive headlights, or turn signal modules), disconnect those connectors as well. Document connector positions if multiple connectors are present.

   Remove passenger side headlight mounting bolts
   Remove the three mounting bolts securing the passenger side headlight assembly. Configuration matches the driver side: one bolt at the top outer corner (10mm), one at the top inner corner (10mm), and one at the lower outer corner (8mm or 10mm). Keep bolts organized and check condition of any rubber isolators or grommets.

   Remove passenger side headlight assembly
   Pull the passenger side headlight assembly forward and outward from its mounting position. Disengage any alignment pins at the bottom and tilt as necessary to clear obstructions. Remove the assembly completely and inspect the mounting surface and alignment features.

   Prepare new headlight assemblies
   Unpack new headlight assemblies and verify they match the originals in terms of connector configuration and mounting points. If headlight assemblies come without bulbs, transfer bulbs from old assemblies carefully. Clean mounting surfaces on the vehicle using a clean cloth to remove any dirt or debris. Inspect alignment pins and rubber isolators.
   ℹ️If transferring halogen bulbs, avoid touching the glass with bare hands. Use clean gloves or paper towel.

    Install passenger side headlight assembly
    Position the new passenger side headlight assembly into the mounting location. Align the bottom pins or tabs first, then push the assembly rearward until it seats flush against the mounting surface. Verify all alignment points are properly engaged before installing bolts.

    Install passenger side mounting bolts
    Install all three mounting bolts for the passenger side headlight assembly. Start all bolts by hand to ensure proper thread engagement. Tighten bolts in a cross pattern (top outer, lower, top inner) to 8-10 Nm (6-7 lb-ft) for 8mm bolts or hand-tight plus 1/4 turn for 10mm bolts. Do not overtighten as headlight housing is plastic and can crack.

    Connect passenger side electrical connectors
    Reconnect all electrical connectors to the passenger side headlight assembly. Push each connector firmly until it clicks into place. Route wiring harness to avoid pinch points and ensure no wires contact sharp edges or moving parts. Verify all connectors are fully seated.

    Install driver side headlight assembly
    Position the new driver side headlight assembly into the mounting location. Align the bottom pins or tabs with their corresponding holes, then push the assembly rearward until it seats properly against the mounting surface. Check that the assembly is flush with adjacent body panels before securing.

    Install driver side mounting bolts
    Install all three mounting bolts for the driver side headlight assembly. Start all bolts by hand first. Tighten in a cross pattern to 8-10 Nm (6-7 lb-ft) for 8mm bolts or hand-tight plus 1/4 turn for 10mm bolts. Ensure even pressure distribution and avoid overtightening plastic housing.

    Connect driver side electrical connectors and reinstall trim
    Reconnect all electrical connectors to the driver side headlight assembly, ensuring each clicks securely into place. Route wiring to avoid interference. Reinstall both upper grille panel sections by aligning clips and pressing into position, then install new or existing push pin retainers. Reconnect negative battery terminal and torque to specification.

Reassembly

1. Verify all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked
2. Confirm headlight assemblies are flush with surrounding body panels and grille
3. Check that all mounting bolts are properly tightened but not overtorqued
4. Ensure grille panels and trim pieces are securely fastened with all retainers installed

Verification

• Turn ignition to ON position and verify both headlights illuminate on low beam
• Test high beam function on both headlights
• Verify turn signals operate correctly if integrated into headlight assemblies
• Check daytime running lights function if equipped
• Inspect headlight alignment visually; professional alignment may be required if beam pattern appears incorrect
• Verify no warning lights are illuminated on instrument cluster related to lighting system
• Check for proper headlight fitment with no gaps between assembly and body panels
