Parts

  • Front power window motor assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification for driver or passenger side
  • Door panel retaining clips (if damaged) × 5 — Mopar part, order extras
  • Window regulator (if worn or damaged) × 1 — Inspect during disassembly

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Roll the affected window to a mid-position (approximately 6-8 inches from full down) for access to mounting bolts
  3. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes to discharge any residual electrical energy
  4. Gather all tools and replacement parts before beginning
  5. Photograph or mark the door panel fastener locations for reassembly reference

Procedure

  1. 1
    Disconnect battery negative terminal
Using a 10mm socket, loosen and remove the negative battery terminal bolt. Remove the cable from the terminal and secure it away from the battery to prevent accidental reconnection during the repair.
    Torque spec
    Battery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
  2. 2
    Remove door panel trim components
Remove the door handle trim bezel by gently prying from the rear edge. Remove the power window/lock switch assembly by inserting a trim tool behind it and releasing the retaining clips. Disconnect the electrical connector from the switch assembly. Remove the door pull handle cover by prying out the screw caps and removing the T30 Torx screws underneath.
  3. 3
    Remove door panel fasteners
Locate and remove all door panel mounting screws using a T30 Torx driver. There are typically 2-3 screws along the bottom edge, 1-2 in the door pull recess, and 1 behind the switch assembly location. Carefully note the locations and lengths of each screw as they may vary.
  4. 4
    Detach door panel from door
Starting at the bottom rear corner, use a trim panel tool to gently release the plastic retaining clips around the perimeter of the door panel. Work your way around the panel, releasing each clip carefully. Once all clips are released, lift the panel upward to disengage it from the upper door frame lip, then pull it away from the door. Disconnect any remaining electrical connectors or rod linkages for the door lock.
Apply even pressure when releasing clips to avoid breaking them. Replace any broken clips before reassembly.
  5. 5
    Remove moisture barrier access
Carefully peel back the plastic moisture barrier sheet to access the window motor and regulator assembly. Only remove enough of the barrier to access the motor mounting bolts and electrical connector. Use masking tape to hold the barrier back if needed.
  6. 6
    Support window glass
Before disconnecting the motor, secure the window glass in position using masking tape from the glass to the door frame, or have an assistant hold the glass. This prevents the window from dropping into the door cavity when the motor is disconnected.
The window glass is heavy and will fall if not properly supported when the motor is disconnected.
  7. 7
    Disconnect window motor electrical connector
Locate the electrical connector at the window motor. Press the release tab and disconnect the connector from the motor. Inspect the connector for corrosion or damage and clean if necessary.
  8. 8
    Remove window motor mounting bolts
Using a 10mm socket, remove the mounting bolts securing the window motor to the regulator assembly or door frame. There are typically 3-4 bolts. Support the motor as you remove the final bolt to prevent it from falling. Carefully maneuver the motor out through the access hole in the door frame.
    Torque spec
    Module Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
  9. 9
    Inspect window regulator
With the motor removed, inspect the window regulator tracks, cables, and mounting points for wear, damage, or excessive play. Check for bent tracks, frayed cables, or broken plastic components. If the regulator shows signs of wear, replace it along with the motor to prevent future issues.
  10. 10
    Install new window motor
Position the new window motor into the door cavity and align it with the regulator mounting points. Thread in the mounting bolts by hand first to ensure proper alignment, then tighten them in a cross pattern to the specified torque. Ensure the motor gear properly engages with the regulator mechanism.
    Torque spec
    Module Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
  11. 11
    Reconnect electrical connector
Connect the electrical connector to the new window motor until it clicks into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully seated and locked.
  12. 12
    Test motor operation before reassembly
Reconnect the negative battery cable temporarily and test the window motor operation. Remove the tape or support from the window glass and operate the window through several full up and down cycles. Verify smooth operation with no binding, unusual noises, or slow movement. If operation is unsatisfactory, recheck motor installation and regulator condition. Disconnect the battery again before proceeding.
ℹ️Testing before full reassembly prevents having to remove the door panel again if there are issues.
    Torque spec
    Battery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
  13. 13
    Reinstall moisture barrier
Carefully reposition the plastic moisture barrier over the door frame, ensuring it seals completely around all edges. Press firmly to reseal any adhesive areas. The barrier must seal properly to prevent water intrusion into the door cavity.
  14. 14
    Reinstall door panel
Reconnect any door lock rod linkages and electrical connectors. Position the door panel and engage the upper edge into the door frame lip. Press firmly around the perimeter to engage all retaining clips. Reinstall all T30 Torx screws in their original locations. Reconnect and reinstall the power window/lock switch assembly and all trim bezels.
  15. 15
Reconnect battery and perform window relearn
Reconnect the negative battery cable and tighten to specification. Perform the power window auto-up/down relearn procedure: Turn ignition to ON position, fully lower the window, then fully raise the window and hold the switch up for 2 seconds after reaching the top. Repeat for all windows if necessary.
    Torque spec
    Battery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all door panel clips are fully engaged and the panel is flush with the door frame
  2. Verify all trim bezels and switch assemblies are securely clipped in place
  3. Test all door functions including locks, handles, and remaining power windows to ensure no connections were missed

Verification

  • Test the repaired window through multiple full up and down cycles to confirm smooth operation
  • Verify auto-up and auto-down features function properly if equipped
  • Check that the window seats properly at the full-up position with no gaps
  • Inspect door panel for proper fit with no rattles or loose components
  • Verify window operation speed matches the opposite side window
  • Check for any unusual noises during window operation
