Parts

  • HVAC Blower Motor Assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Blower Motor Resistor (if equipped/damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Cabin air filter × 1 — Replace during service
  • Push-pin trim fasteners × 5 — Have spares available

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Ensure HVAC system is turned off and vehicle has been off for at least 30 minutes
  3. Disconnect negative terminal of 12V auxiliary battery located in rear storage compartment
  4. Wait minimum 2 minutes after battery disconnect for system capacitors to discharge
  5. Move passenger seat fully rearward and reclined for working clearance
  6. Protect passenger floor area with clean shop towels or drop cloth

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove lower passenger dash panel
Open passenger door fully. Locate and remove four T20 Torx screws securing lower dash panel. Gently pull bottom of panel outward to release upper retention clips. Disconnect any electrical connectors for lighting or storage compartment features if equipped. Remove panel and set aside in protected area.
  2. 2
Remove cabin air filter access cover
Locate cabin air filter access door behind glove box area on right side of HVAC housing. Press release tabs on both sides of filter door and pull cover straight out. Remove existing cabin air filter and inspect for excessive debris or moisture that may have damaged blower motor.
  3. 3
    Disconnect blower motor electrical connector
Locate blower motor electrical connector on side of blower motor housing. Press release tab on connector and pull straight away from motor. Use flashlight to verify connector condition and check for signs of overheating or corrosion on terminals.
  4. 4
Disconnect blower motor resistor (if equipped)
If vehicle is equipped with variable speed blower resistor module, locate it mounted adjacent to blower motor. Disconnect electrical connector by pressing release tab. Remove two mounting screws securing resistor module to housing. Set resistor aside for inspection or replacement.

  6. 6
    Extract blower motor assembly
Carefully rotate blower motor assembly clockwise approximately 30 degrees to disengage locating tabs. Pull motor assembly straight out from HVAC housing. Tilt fan cage as necessary to clear opening. Inspect housing interior for debris, leaves, or foreign objects and vacuum clean if needed.
  7. 7
Inspect and prepare new blower motor
Compare new blower motor to removed unit to verify correct application and mounting configuration. Check that fan cage rotates freely without binding. Verify electrical connector orientation matches original. Clean mounting surface on HVAC housing of any gasket material or debris.
  8. 8
    Install new blower motor assembly
Position new blower motor assembly at HVAC housing opening. Tilt fan cage as needed and carefully insert motor into housing. Rotate counterclockwise 30 degrees to align locating tabs with housing slots. Ensure motor flange seats flush against housing surface with no gaps.
  9. 9
Install and torque blower motor screws
Install three blower motor mounting screws by hand. Thread all screws before tightening any. Using torque wrench, tighten screws in star pattern to specification. Verify motor is secure and cannot rotate in housing.

  11. 11
    Reconnect blower motor electrical connector
Align electrical connector with blower motor terminals. Push connector firmly onto motor until release tab engages with audible click. Gently pull on connector to verify secure connection.
  12. 12
    Install new cabin air filter
Insert new cabin air filter into filter housing with airflow direction arrow pointing toward blower motor. Ensure filter seats completely in housing tracks. Reinstall filter access cover by aligning tabs and pressing until retention clips engage.
  13. 13
    Reinstall lower dash panel
Reconnect any electrical connectors to dash panel components. Position panel at mounting location and engage upper retention clips first. Press lower portion of panel into place and install four T20 Torx screws. Verify panel is secure and all gaps are even.
  14. 14
    Reconnect battery and initialize system
Return to rear storage compartment and reconnect negative terminal to 12V auxiliary battery. Tighten terminal clamp securely. Return passenger seat to normal position.

Reassembly

  1. Torque all fasteners to specifications using calibrated torque wrench
  2. Ensure all electrical connectors are fully seated with release tabs engaged
  3. Verify cabin air filter is properly installed with correct airflow direction
  4. Check that all trim panels are secure with even gaps and no rattles

Verification

  • Turn vehicle to ON position without starting drive motors
  • Activate HVAC system and test blower motor at all speed settings (LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH)
  • Verify smooth operation with no unusual noise, vibration, or binding
  • Confirm adequate airflow from all dashboard vents
  • Listen for air leaks around blower motor housing indicating improper seal
  • Test both heating and cooling modes to ensure proper air delivery
  • Verify no warning lights or HVAC fault codes appear on instrument cluster
  • Check that blower motor speed changes appropriately with fan control adjustments
