Parts
- Side mirror assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Mirror mounting gasket/seal × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Push-pin retainers (if damaged) × 3 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Disconnect 12V auxiliary battery located in front trunk compartment
- Wait 2 minutes for vehicle systems to fully power down
- Protect adjacent painted surfaces with masking tape if desired
- Lower the driver or passenger window on the side being serviced for interior access
Procedure
- 1Remove door trim panel upper sectionUsing trim panel removal tools, carefully release the upper door trim panel section near the mirror mounting area. Start at the rear edge and work forward. Remove any push-pin retainers securing the trim panel, noting their positions for reinstallation.
- 2Disconnect mirror electrical connectorLocate the mirror electrical connector behind the door trim panel. Press the connector release tab and carefully pull the connector apart. Note the routing of the wiring harness for proper reinstallation.
- 3Remove mirror trim coverFrom inside the vehicle, locate the triangular trim cover at the door/mirror junction. Use a trim removal tool to carefully pry off the trim cover, starting at the bottom edge. Set aside with fasteners.
- 4Support mirror assemblyHave an assistant support the mirror assembly from outside the vehicle, or use painter's tape to temporarily support it against the door. This prevents the mirror from falling when fasteners are removed.
- 5Remove mirror mounting fastenersRemove the three T30 Torx or 10mm bolts securing the mirror assembly to the door frame. These are typically located in a triangular pattern behind the trim cover. Keep fasteners organized for reinstallation.
- 6Remove mirror assemblyWhile supporting the mirror, carefully pull it away from the door. Thread the electrical connector and wiring harness through the door opening. Inspect the mounting surface and gasket for damage or debris.
- 7Prepare new mirror assemblyUnpack the new mirror assembly and verify it matches the removed unit. Install a new mounting gasket if provided. Route the electrical connector through the door opening before positioning the mirror.
- 8Install mirror assemblyThread the mirror wiring harness through the door opening. Align the mirror mounting holes with the door frame studs or threaded holes. Ensure the gasket is properly seated around the entire perimeter.
- 9Install mounting fastenersInstall the three mounting bolts and tighten in a cross pattern to ensure even seating. Tighten fasteners firmly but do not overtighten to avoid cracking the mirror housing or compressing the gasket excessively.
- 10Reconnect electrical connectorConnect the mirror electrical connector, ensuring it clicks firmly into place. Verify the connector lock tab is fully engaged. Route wiring harness to prevent pinching during trim panel installation.
- 11Reinstall trim componentsReinstall the triangular trim cover at the mirror base. Reinstall the upper door trim panel section, ensuring all push-pin retainers are properly seated and the panel is flush with adjacent surfaces.
Reassembly
- Reconnect 12V auxiliary battery in front trunk compartment
- Close all doors and windows
- Verify all trim panels are securely fastened with no gaps or rattles
- Remove any protective masking tape from painted surfaces
Verification
- Power on the vehicle and verify the mirror power folding function operates correctly in both directions
- Test mirror adjustment controls in all directions (up, down, left, right)
- Verify mirror heating function activates when rear defrost is engaged
- Check that mirror-mounted cameras display properly in the infotainment system
- Inspect for any error messages related to mirror or camera systems
- Schedule mirror/camera calibration through Rivian service center or mobile service if required for driver assistance features
