Parts
- Subwoofer assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Trim panel clips × 5 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Disconnect 12V auxiliary battery located in front compartment
- Allow any audio system components to cool if vehicle was recently operated
- Gather all necessary tools and replacement parts
- Take photos of wiring connections before disconnection for reference during reassembly
Procedure
- 1Access rear cargo areaOpen rear cargo doors fully. Identify the subwoofer location in the rear cargo area, typically mounted in the driver-side rear panel or under a cargo floor panel depending on EDV configuration.
- 2Remove cargo area trim panelsUsing trim panel removal tools, carefully pry out the cargo area side trim panel that conceals the subwoofer mounting location. Start at the bottom edge and work upward, releasing each clip sequentially. Set trim panel aside in a safe location to prevent damage.
- 3Disconnect subwoofer electrical connectorLocate the wiring harness connector attached to the subwoofer. Press the locking tab on the connector and pull straight back to disconnect. If connector is difficult to access, note routing and gently move harness as needed.
- 4Remove subwoofer mounting fastenersUsing a 10mm socket or T20 Torx driver as applicable, remove the mounting bolts or screws securing the subwoofer assembly to the vehicle body. Typically there are 4-6 fasteners around the perimeter of the subwoofer enclosure. Support the subwoofer with one hand while removing the final fastener.
- 5Extract subwoofer assemblyCarefully pull the subwoofer assembly away from the mounting location. Check for any additional wiring or mounting hardware that may need to be disconnected. Remove the assembly from the vehicle and place on a clean work surface.
- 6Inspect mounting locationInspect the mounting surface and bracket for any damage, corrosion, or loose hardware. Clean the mounting surface if necessary. Verify all mounting studs or threaded inserts are intact and properly secured.
- 7Position new subwoofer assemblyPosition the replacement subwoofer assembly into the mounting location, aligning mounting holes with vehicle mounting points. Ensure no wiring harnesses are pinched between the subwoofer and vehicle body.
- 8Install mounting fastenersThread in all mounting bolts or screws by hand first to ensure proper alignment. Once all fasteners are started, tighten in a cross-pattern to ensure even pressure distribution. Tighten securely but do not overtighten to avoid crushing mounting grommets or damaging enclosure.
- 9Reconnect electrical connectorAlign the wiring harness connector with the subwoofer terminal and push firmly until the locking tab clicks into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully seated and locked.
- 10Reinstall trim panelsPosition the cargo area trim panel back into place. Starting at one end, press firmly on each clip location until all clips are fully seated and the panel is flush with surrounding surfaces. Replace any broken clips identified during removal.
Reassembly
- Ensure all trim panels are securely fastened and flush with no gaps
- Verify subwoofer wiring harness has proper slack and is not stretched or pinched
- Reconnect 12V auxiliary battery, ensuring positive terminal is connected first followed by negative
Verification
- Turn vehicle to accessory mode and power on the audio system
- Play audio content with bass frequencies and verify subwoofer is producing sound
- Test at multiple volume levels to ensure no rattling or distortion
- Use audio system balance/fader settings to isolate subwoofer output if available
- Verify all trim panels are secure with no rattles during test
- Check for proper operation of all audio system functions including fade, balance, and equalizer settings
