Parts

  • Windshield washer pump assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Washer fluid hose clamp (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification

Fluids

  • Windshield Washer Fluid — 3.5 qt

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Disconnect the 12V auxiliary battery located in the front compartment
  3. Allow at least 5 minutes after battery disconnect before beginning work
  4. Place drain pan and towels in work area to catch washer fluid
  5. Access the front storage compartment (frunk) by releasing the latch

Procedure

  1. 1
    Access washer fluid reservoir
Open the frunk and locate the washer fluid reservoir on the driver's side of the front compartment. The reservoir is mounted to the inner fender well area. Remove the reservoir cap to relieve any pressure in the system.
  2. 2
    Remove frunk liner panels
Using trim panel removal tools, carefully pry out the push-pin fasteners securing the driver's side frunk liner panel. Remove approximately 6-8 fasteners, then pull the liner panel away to expose the washer fluid reservoir and pump assembly. Set fasteners aside for reinstallation.
  3. 3
    Drain washer fluid reservoir
Position the drain pan beneath the reservoir. Using needle-nose pliers or a small flathead screwdriver, release the hose clamp on the outlet hose at the bottom of the reservoir. Carefully pull the hose off and allow the fluid to drain completely into the pan. This will take several minutes depending on fluid level.
  4. 4
    Disconnect electrical connector
Locate the electrical connector on the washer pump motor at the base of the reservoir. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight off the pump. The connector may have a secondary locking clip that needs to be lifted first before pressing the main tab.
  5. 5
    Disconnect additional fluid hoses
Identify any additional washer fluid hoses connected to the pump assembly (typically one main output line). Use pliers to release the hose clamp, then twist and pull the hose off the pump outlet. Have towels ready as residual fluid will drip out.
  6. 6
    Remove reservoir mounting fasteners
Locate the mounting fasteners securing the washer fluid reservoir to the vehicle body. Remove the two to three 10mm bolts or T20 Torx screws that secure the reservoir bracket. Support the reservoir with one hand while removing the final fastener.
  7. 7
    Extract washer pump from reservoir
With the reservoir accessible, locate the washer pump mounted in a grommet at the bottom of the reservoir. Twist the pump counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn while pulling downward to release it from the reservoir grommet. The pump should separate from the reservoir with its rubber seal.
  8. 8
    Inspect reservoir and seals
Examine the reservoir for cracks, especially around the pump mounting area. Inspect the rubber grommet seal in the reservoir for deterioration or damage. Check all hose connection points for cracks or wear. Replace the reservoir if any damage is found.
  9. 9
    Install new washer pump
Ensure the rubber seal is properly seated on the new pump. Align the pump with the reservoir opening and push firmly while twisting clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks into place. The pump should sit flush and be secure with no movement when tugged gently.
  10. 10
    Reinstall reservoir assembly
Position the washer fluid reservoir back into its mounting location. Install and hand-tighten all mounting fasteners, then securely tighten the 10mm bolts or T20 Torx screws. Ensure the reservoir is stable and properly positioned before proceeding.
  11. 11
    Reconnect hoses and electrical
Reconnect all washer fluid hoses to the pump outlets, ensuring hose clamps are positioned properly and tightened securely. Connect the electrical connector to the pump until it clicks into place. Verify the locking tab is fully engaged and any secondary clips are secured.
  12. 12
    Refill washer fluid reservoir
Pour fresh windshield washer fluid into the reservoir through the filler neck until it reaches the full mark. Use approximately 3.5 quarts total. Do not overfill as fluid needs expansion room.
  13. 13
    Reinstall frunk liner
Align the frunk liner panel and press it back into position. Reinstall all push-pin fasteners by pressing firmly until they click into place. Ensure the panel is secure and sits flush with surrounding surfaces.

Reassembly

  1. Reconnect the 12V auxiliary battery, ensuring proper terminal connection and security
  2. Verify all tools and parts have been removed from the frunk area
  3. Double-check all hose connections for proper seating and clamp security
  4. Ensure the frunk liner panel is fully secured with all fasteners installed

Verification

  • Turn the vehicle to the ON position (do not need to be in drive mode)
  • Activate the windshield washer system using the stalk control and verify fluid sprays from all nozzles
  • Listen for abnormal pump noise; the pump should operate smoothly without grinding or excessive noise
  • Check all hose connections and the reservoir base for leaks while the pump is running
  • Verify the pump stops operating when the washer control is released
  • Inspect the frunk area for any fluid leaks after several minutes of operation
  • Test the washer system multiple times to ensure consistent performance
