This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the front power window regulator assembly on a 2022 Rivian EDV 500 electric delivery van.
Warnings
⚠Disconnect 12V battery at least 2 minutes before beginning work to allow electrical systems to power down completely.
⚠The window regulator is under spring tension and may release suddenly during removal. Control the glass and regulator during disassembly.
ℹ️Take photos during disassembly to aid in correct routing of electrical harnesses and proper door panel clip placement.
⚠Do not drop fasteners or tools inside the door cavity as retrieval may require additional disassembly.

- Front power window regulator assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Disconnect negative terminal of 12V auxiliary battery located in the front storage compartment
- Wait at least 2 minutes for electrical system to power down
- Lower the affected window to approximately mid-travel position if operational
- Open the front door fully and support with door prop if available
- Prepare workspace with organized tool and parts storage
Procedure
- 1Remove door panel trim componentsUse trim removal tool to carefully pry off the door handle trim cover. Remove any visible Torx screws behind the cover. Locate and remove the door pull handle bezel by releasing the retention clips. If equipped, remove the small trim cover over the mirror adjustment controls.
- 2Disconnect electrical connectorsPress the locking tab on the window switch connector and carefully disconnect it. Disconnect the door lock switch connector and any additional electrical connectors for puddle lights or speaker assemblies in the door panel. Route connectors clear of the panel.
- 3Remove door panel fastenersRemove all perimeter Torx screws securing the door panel (typically T20 or T25). Check the door pull area, lower door edge, and along the rear edge of the panel. Remove the door latch cable by rotating the cable end 90 degrees and sliding it out of the handle mechanism.
- 4Remove door panelStarting at the bottom rear corner, use door panel tool to release the plastic retention clips by pulling outward firmly. Work around the entire perimeter, releasing all clips. Once all clips are released, lift the panel up and away from the door to clear the window sill ledge. Set panel aside in a safe location.
- 5Remove vapor barrier accessCarefully peel back the plastic vapor barrier to access the window regulator mechanism. The Rivian EDV typically uses a reusable membrane that can be peeled and resealed. Create an opening large enough to access all regulator mounting points and electrical connections.
- 6Secure window glassIf window is operational, run it to a position where the regulator mounting bolts are accessible. Support the window glass from above or tape it in the full-up position using masking tape from the glass to the door frame exterior. This prevents the glass from falling when the regulator is disconnected.
- 7Disconnect window from regulatorLocate the two bolts securing the window glass to the regulator lift channels. Using a 10mm socket, remove these bolts. The glass channel may have access holes in the door inner panel. Gently lift the window fully upward and secure it with additional tape if needed.
- 8Disconnect regulator motorLocate the power window motor electrical connector on the regulator assembly. Press the locking tab and disconnect the connector. Ensure the connector is routed clear of the regulator to prevent damage during removal.
- 9Remove regulator mounting fastenersIdentify all regulator mounting bolts (typically 3-4 bolts securing the regulator track and motor assembly to the door frame). Use T30 Torx driver or 10mm socket as appropriate. Remove all mounting fasteners while supporting the regulator assembly to prevent it from falling.
- 10Remove regulator assemblyCarefully maneuver the regulator assembly out through the large service opening in the door inner panel. The regulator may need to be tilted or rotated to clear the door structure. Take care not to catch cables or mounting brackets on door edges. Remove assembly completely from the door.
- 11Install new regulator assemblyPosition the new regulator assembly into the door through the service opening. Align the regulator mounting holes with the corresponding holes in the door frame. Ensure all cables and mechanisms move freely and are not pinched. Install all mounting fasteners hand-tight initially, then tighten securely in a cross-pattern to ensure even alignment.
- 12Reconnect window glassLower the window glass into the regulator lift channels. Align the mounting holes and install the two window-to-regulator bolts. Tighten securely with 10mm socket. Remove any tape supporting the glass. Reconnect the regulator motor electrical connector, ensuring it clicks fully into place.
Reassembly
- Reconnect the 12V auxiliary battery negative terminal
- Before reinstalling door panel, test window operation through full travel in both directions to verify proper installation
- Reset window auto-up/down function if equipped by following initialization procedure (typically: hold window switch up for 3 seconds after full-up position)
- Press vapor barrier back into place, ensuring complete adhesion around all edges
- Position door panel over the door frame, ensuring top edge engages window sill ledge
- Press firmly around perimeter to seat all retention clips until they click
- Reinstall all Torx screws and reconnect all electrical connectors
- Reinstall trim pieces, door handle covers, and bezels in reverse order of removal
- Verify all panel gaps are even and all functions operate correctly
Verification
- Test window operation through complete up and down travel multiple times, verifying smooth operation without binding or unusual noise
- Verify window auto-up and auto-down functions work correctly (if equipped)
- Check that window seals properly against weatherstripping at full-up position
- Verify all door panel trim pieces are secure with no rattles
- Confirm all door switches and controls function properly
- Check door panel alignment and ensure all clips are fully seated with no gaps
- Test door operation to ensure no interference with window or regulator mechanism
