Parts
- Subwoofer assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Trim panel clips (if damaged) × 5 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn off vehicle completely and remove key card from cabin
- Open rear cargo doors or side doors for access to work area
- Locate 12V battery access panel in cargo area and disconnect negative terminal
- Wait 5 minutes for capacitors to discharge before proceeding
- Clear cargo area of any items and secure loose tools
- Identify subwoofer location (typically passenger side rear cargo panel or under rear bulkhead)
Procedure
- 1Remove rear cargo trim panelUse plastic trim removal tools to carefully pry the cargo area side panel where the subwoofer is mounted. Start at the bottom edge and work upward, releasing the retention clips. There are typically 8-10 clips along the perimeter. Support the panel as you release the final clips to prevent it from falling.
- 2Disconnect electrical connectorLocate the audio harness connector attached to the subwoofer. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight out from the subwoofer. Do not pull on the wires themselves. If connector is difficult to remove, use a small flat-blade screwdriver to carefully depress the locking tab while pulling.
- 3Remove subwoofer mounting fastenersLocate the 4 Torx fasteners securing the subwoofer to the mounting bracket or body panel. These are typically T25 Torx screws. Remove all fasteners and keep them organized for reinstallation. Note the location of any ground wires or additional brackets attached with these fasteners.
- 4Remove subwoofer assemblyCarefully pull the subwoofer forward and away from its mounting location. The assembly may be secured with additional foam tape or vibration dampening material. Gently work it free without forcing. Be aware of the weight (typically 15-20 lbs) and support it properly during removal.
- 5Test new subwoofer (optional)Before final installation, you may test the new subwoofer by temporarily connecting the electrical connector and reconnecting the 12V battery. Power on the vehicle audio system and verify subwoofer operation at low volume. If testing, ensure the subwoofer is stable and secure before powering on.
- 6Install new subwoofer assemblyPosition the new subwoofer in the mounting location, aligning the mounting holes with the bracket or body panel. Ensure any foam dampening material is properly positioned and that no wires are pinched behind the unit. The connector port should be easily accessible.
- 7Install mounting fastenersInstall all 4 mounting fasteners by hand first to ensure proper thread engagement and alignment. Tighten in a cross pattern to ensure even pressure distribution. Fasteners should be snug but not overtightened as the mounting points are typically plastic or composite material. Reattach any ground wires or brackets.
- 8Reconnect electrical connectorAlign the electrical connector with the subwoofer port and push firmly until you hear or feel the locking tab click into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully seated and locked. Ensure the wire harness is routed properly and not kinked or stretched.
- 9Reinstall cargo trim panelAlign the trim panel with its mounting position, ensuring all clips are properly positioned in their receptacles. Starting at one corner, press firmly along all edges to seat each clip. You should hear audible clicks as each clip engages. Verify the panel is flush and secure along all edges.
- 10Reconnect 12V batteryReconnect the negative terminal to the 12V battery and secure the connection. Ensure the terminal is clean and makes good contact. Replace the battery access cover.
Reassembly
- Ensure all trim panels are fully seated with all clips engaged
- Verify no tools or parts are left in the cargo area
- Check that all electrical connectors are fully locked in place
- Confirm wire harness routing matches original configuration
Verification
- Power on the vehicle and access the audio system controls
- Play audio content with bass content at low to moderate volume
- Verify subwoofer produces sound without distortion, rattles, or buzzing
- Test audio balance and fade controls to confirm subwoofer responds properly
- Increase volume gradually to verify operation across volume range
- Inspect cargo area for any loose trim panels or unusual noises
- Check that no warning messages appear on the instrument cluster related to audio system
- Verify trim panels are secure by pressing on them in multiple locations
