Preparation
- Park vehicle in a well-ventilated area with stable cellular or WiFi coverage
- Verify vehicle battery state of charge is at least 50% (preferably above 80%)
- Connect battery maintainer if performing extended update to prevent battery drain
- Close all doors, hood, and tailgate to prevent timeout interruptions
- Download latest Rivian Service Tool software and required update files to laptop
- Verify valid Rivian technician credentials or fleet management access for commercial EDV units
- Document current software version from vehicle settings menu for records
Procedure
- 1Access vehicle diagnostics portLocate the OBD-II diagnostic port under the driver's side dashboard, above the footwell area. Remove any protective cover if present.
- 2Connect diagnostic equipmentConnect the OBD-II to USB/Ethernet adapter cable to the vehicle's diagnostic port. Connect the opposite end to the laptop running Rivian Service Tool software. Ensure the connection is secure and the adapter has power indication.
- 3Power on vehicle systemsPress the brake pedal and push the power button to place the vehicle in ON/READY mode without engaging the drive motors. Verify that all vehicle systems are active on the instrument cluster.
- 4Launch Rivian Service ToolOpen the Rivian Service Tool software on the laptop. Log in with valid technician or fleet administrator credentials. Wait for the software to establish communication with the vehicle's ECUs and display the vehicle identification information.
- 5Verify vehicle identificationConfirm that the displayed VIN, model year (2025), and vehicle configuration (EDV 500 Dual Motor AWD) match the vehicle being serviced. Check that all control modules are communicating without error codes.
- 6Check for available updatesNavigate to the Software Update section within the Service Tool. Allow the system to query Rivian servers for available updates. Review the list of available updates, including powertrain firmware, battery management system, ADAS calibrations, and infotainment software.

- 10Complete update processWait for the Service Tool to display 'Update Complete' confirmation. The software will verify that all modules have been successfully updated and are communicating properly. Review the completion report for any errors or warnings.
- 11Perform system rebootPower off the vehicle completely using the power button. Wait 30 seconds. Press the brake and power on the vehicle again to allow all systems to reinitialize with the new software.
- 12Disconnect diagnostic equipmentOnce the update is confirmed successful and the vehicle has rebooted, safely disconnect the diagnostic cable from the OBD-II port. Replace any protective covers that were removed.

Verification
