Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Power off vehicle completely using center console power button
- Wait 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to enter sleep mode
- Open hood and ensure no warning lights are active on the dash
- Verify fog light to be replaced (driver or passenger side)
- Gather all tools and replacement parts before starting
Procedure
- 1Access front bumper areaTurn the steering wheel fully away from the side being serviced to provide better access to the wheel well. If working on the driver side fog light, turn steering wheel fully to the right. If working on passenger side, turn fully to the left.
- 2Remove wheel well liner access panelLocate the wheel well liner access panel directly behind the fog light housing. Remove 4-6 push-pin retainers securing the front portion of the wheel well liner using the panel removal tool. Fold back the liner to expose the rear of the fog light assembly.
- 3Disconnect fog light electrical connectorReach behind the fog light assembly and locate the electrical connector. Press the release tab on the connector and pull straight back to disconnect. The connector features a secondary lock that must be released first by sliding it away from the connector body before pressing the main release tab.
- 4Remove front bumper access cover (if equipped)Some EDV 500 configurations have a small access panel on the front bumper near the fog light. If present, use a T20 Torx bit to remove 2 screws securing this cover and set aside with hardware. This provides additional access for fog light removal.
- 5Remove fog light mounting fastenersFrom behind the fog light assembly through the wheel well opening, locate three mounting fasteners (typically T25 or T30 Torx bolts). Remove all three fasteners completely and retain for reuse or replacement. Support the fog light assembly with one hand while removing the final fastener to prevent it from falling.
- 6Extract fog light assemblyCarefully pull the fog light assembly forward from the bumper opening. The assembly may have alignment pins or tabs that require slight rotation or angling to clear the bumper. Guide the connector and wiring harness through the opening as you remove the assembly. Inspect the mounting area for debris or damage.
- 7Inspect mounting area and hardwareClean the fog light mounting surface on the bumper of any dirt, debris, or corrosion. Inspect the mounting brackets, alignment pins, and bumper opening for damage. Check all mounting hardware threads and replace any damaged fasteners. Verify the rubber seal or gasket channel is intact and clean.
- 8Prepare new fog light assemblyUnpack the new fog light assembly and verify it matches the removed unit. Transfer any required mounting brackets or hardware if not pre-installed on the new unit. Ensure the gasket or seal is properly seated on the new fog light housing. Test fit the alignment pins or tabs before installation.
- 9Install new fog light assemblyGuide the wiring connector through the bumper opening first, then align the fog light assembly with the mounting location. Ensure alignment pins or tabs engage properly with the bumper opening. Press the assembly firmly into place until it seats flush with the bumper surface. Verify the gasket is not pinched or displaced.
- 10Install mounting fastenersInsert all three mounting fasteners by hand through the wheel well access, ensuring they thread smoothly without cross-threading. Tighten fasteners in a star pattern to ensure even pressure distribution. Snug fasteners finger-tight initially, then tighten firmly with the Torx driver. Do not overtighten as this may crack the fog light housing.
- 11Reconnect electrical connectorAlign the electrical connector with the fog light socket and push firmly until you hear and feel a positive click. Ensure the secondary lock slides into the locked position. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully seated and locked.
- 12Reinstall wheel well liner and access panelsPosition the wheel well liner back into place, aligning all mounting holes. Install new push-pin retainers in all locations, ensuring they expand fully and secure the liner. Replace the front bumper access cover if removed, tightening T20 screws securely but without stripping.
- 13Test fog light operationReturn steering wheel to center position. Power on the vehicle and activate the fog lights using the lighting control stalk or touchscreen menu. Verify the new fog light illuminates properly with correct beam pattern and brightness matching the opposite side. Check for any error messages on the instrument cluster.
Reassembly
- Ensure all trim panels, access covers, and wheel well liners are fully secured with no gaps
- Verify all fasteners have been reinstalled and tightened properly
- Check that fog light sits flush with bumper surface and alignment matches opposite side
- Confirm no tools or parts have been left in the wheel well or bumper area
Verification
- Power on vehicle and test fog lights multiple times (on/off cycles) to ensure reliable operation
- Inspect fog light alignment and beam pattern against a wall or garage door - both sides should match
- Check for any warning lights or fog light error messages on instrument cluster
- Verify fog light housing is secure with no rattles or movement when pressing on the lens
- Confirm all wheel well liner fasteners are secure and liner does not interfere with tire rotation
- Test that fog lights operate independently and with headlights in all lighting modes
