Parts
- Dashboard speaker assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Dashboard trim panel clips (if damaged) — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Ensure vehicle is powered off and key fob is at least 15 feet away from vehicle
- Open hood and disconnect 12V auxiliary battery negative terminal, wait 2 minutes for system capacitors to discharge
- Allow dashboard to cool if vehicle was recently operated in direct sunlight
- Prepare a clean work area to place removed trim panels
Procedure
- 1Remove upper dashboard trim panel end capLocate the dashboard trim panel end cap on the side of the dash where the speaker is located. Using a plastic trim tool, carefully pry the end cap away from the dashboard starting at the rear edge. Work the tool around the perimeter to release all clips. Remove the end cap and set aside in a safe location.
- 2Release dashboard upper trim panel clipsInsert plastic trim tools along the top edge of the dashboard trim panel above the speaker location. Gently pry upward to release the spring clips securing the trim panel. There are typically 4-6 clips along this section. Work methodically from one side to the other to avoid breaking clips.
- 3Remove T20 Torx fasteners from trim panelLocate and remove the T20 Torx screws securing the upper dashboard trim panel. There are typically 2-3 fasteners accessible once the clips are released. Place fasteners in a magnetic parts tray to prevent loss.
- 4Carefully lift and separate trim panelGently lift the dashboard trim panel upward and toward the interior of the vehicle. Be mindful of any remaining clips or tabs. Tilt the panel as needed to clear the windshield and instrument cluster area. Do not force or pull aggressively as wiring may still be connected underneath.
- 5Disconnect ambient lighting connector (if equipped)If the trim panel has integrated ambient lighting, locate the electrical connector on the underside. Press the locking tab and gently pull the connector apart. Support both sides of the connector to avoid damaging pins. Fully remove the trim panel and set aside on a protected surface.
- 6Access speaker mounting fastenersWith the trim panel removed, locate the dashboard speaker assembly. Identify the T25 Torx mounting screws, typically 3-4 per speaker, securing the speaker grille or speaker housing to the dashboard structure. Use a work light to clearly see all fastener locations.
- 7Remove speaker mounting fastenersUsing the T25 Torx driver, remove all speaker mounting screws. Keep track of fastener locations as some may be different lengths. Place all fasteners in the magnetic parts tray.
- 8Extract speaker assembly from dashboardCarefully pull the speaker assembly forward out of the dashboard mounting location. The speaker will still be connected by wiring. Support the speaker weight with one hand while accessing the connector with the other. Note the orientation and routing of the speaker wire harness.
- 9Disconnect speaker electrical connectorLocate the speaker electrical connector behind the speaker assembly. Press the connector locking tab (typically a squeeze-type or slide-type lock) and carefully separate the connector halves. Do not pull on the wires themselves. If the connector is difficult to access, use an electrical connector release tool.
- 10Remove failed speaker from vehicleWith the electrical connector disconnected, fully remove the old speaker assembly from the vehicle. Inspect the mounting location for any debris, damaged clips, or loose fasteners that may have contributed to speaker failure.
- 11Prepare and install new speaker assemblyRemove the new speaker from packaging and verify it matches the original part. Connect the electrical connector to the new speaker first, ensuring a positive click or lock engagement. Verify the connector is fully seated before proceeding.
- 12Position new speaker in mounting locationCarefully route the speaker wiring back into the dashboard cavity, following the same path as the original. Position the new speaker assembly into the dashboard mounting location, aligning all screw holes with the mounting points in the dashboard structure.
- 13Secure speaker with mounting fastenersInstall all T25 Torx mounting screws by hand first to ensure proper alignment. Tighten screws in a cross-pattern to ensure even seating of the speaker assembly. Do not overtighten as this can crack the speaker housing or strip the dashboard mounting points.
- 14Reinstall dashboard trim panelIf equipped with ambient lighting, reconnect the electrical connector to the trim panel. Position the trim panel over the dashboard, aligning all mounting points and clip locations. Install the T20 Torx fasteners first, then press firmly along all clip locations until each clip engages with an audible click. Reinstall the end cap by pressing firmly until fully seated.
Reassembly
- Reconnect the 12V auxiliary battery negative terminal
- Power on the vehicle and allow the infotainment system to fully boot
- Inspect all trim panel gaps for uniform fitment and proper clip engagement
- Check that all trim fasteners are secure and no rattles are present
Verification
- Access the vehicle audio settings through the infotainment screen
- Perform a speaker balance test to confirm the replaced dash speaker is functioning
- Play audio at various volume levels and frequencies to verify proper speaker operation
- Test fade and balance controls to ensure the speaker responds correctly
- Verify no rattles or distortion from the speaker at moderate to high volume levels
- Confirm all dashboard trim panels are secure with no gaps or loose clips
- Verify all vehicle systems have reinitialized properly after battery reconnection
