This procedure performs a TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) relearn on the 2025 Rivian EDV 500 to ensure the vehicle recognizes tire pressure sensors after tire rotation, replacement, or sensor installation.
Warnings
⚠Ensure vehicle is parked on level ground and in Park with parking brake engaged before beginning procedure
ℹ️TPMS relearn requires the vehicle to be in Service Mode which may require authorized access credentials
⚠Do not exceed maximum tire pressure of 80 PSI during the relearn process to avoid sensor or tire damage
Tools required
TPMS scan tool or OBD-II scan tool with TPMS capabilitiesEssential
Tire pressure gaugeEssential
Air compressor or tire inflatorEssential
Laptop or tablet with Rivian Service Mode access
Parts
- TPMS sensor valve core (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
- Ensure all tires are cold (vehicle has not been driven for at least 3 hours)
- Verify tire pressure specifications on driver door jamb label (typically 42 PSI front/rear for EDV 500)
- Ensure vehicle has at least 50% battery charge to prevent power interruption during relearn
- Have TPMS sensor IDs available if performing replacement or new sensor registration
- Connect scan tool or laptop to vehicle OBD-II port located under driver side dashboard
Procedure
- 1Verify tire pressuresUsing a calibrated tire pressure gauge, check and record the pressure in all four tires plus the spare if equipped. Adjust all tires to the manufacturer recommended pressure as indicated on the door jamb label. For the EDV 500, this is typically 42 PSI front and rear.
- 2Power on vehicle systemsPress the brake pedal and press the power button to turn the vehicle to ON mode without engaging Ready-to-Drive. Ensure all vehicle systems initialize completely and the instrument cluster displays normally. Verify no existing TPMS warning lights are displayed.
- 3Access Service ModeUsing the center touchscreen, navigate to Settings > Service > Service Mode. If using a laptop with Rivian Service software, connect via WiFi or ethernet and authenticate with service credentials. Enter Service Mode to enable TPMS programming functions.
- 4Enter TPMS relearn modeNavigate to Vehicle Diagnostics > TPMS > Relearn Procedure on the scan tool or service software. Select 'Automatic Relearn' for standard relearn after rotation, or 'Manual Sensor ID Entry' if replacing sensors. The vehicle will display 'TPMS Learn Mode Active' on the instrument cluster.
- 5Trigger left front sensorPosition the TPMS trigger tool approximately 1 inch from the valve stem of the left front tire at the 3 o'clock position. Activate the trigger tool and hold until the vehicle horn chirps once or the scan tool confirms sensor reception. Record the sensor ID displayed on the scan tool.
- 6Trigger right front sensorMove to the right front tire and repeat the triggering process at the valve stem. Wait for horn chirp confirmation or scan tool acknowledgment. The vehicle will automatically sequence through each position.
- 7Trigger right rear sensorProceed to the right rear tire and trigger the TPMS sensor following the same procedure. Ensure you receive confirmation before moving to the next wheel position. If no confirmation is received after 30 seconds, re-trigger the sensor.
- 8Trigger left rear sensorComplete the relearn sequence by triggering the left rear TPMS sensor. After successful triggering, the vehicle will emit two horn chirps indicating the automatic relearn sequence is complete.
- 9Program sensor IDsIf manually entering sensor IDs for new sensors, input each 8-digit hexadecimal sensor ID into the scan tool in the correct wheel position (LF, RF, RR, LR). Verify each ID is entered correctly before proceeding. Select 'Write Configuration' to program the IDs to the vehicle's body control module.
- 10Exit Service Mode and testExit TPMS relearn mode on the scan tool. Exit Service Mode through the touchscreen or service software. Power cycle the vehicle by turning it completely off, waiting 30 seconds, then powering back on. Verify the TPMS warning light illuminates briefly during startup then extinguishes.
- 11Perform drive cycle verificationDrive the vehicle at speeds above 25 MPH for at least 10 minutes to allow the TPMS system to verify all sensor signals and positions. Monitor the instrument cluster to ensure no TPMS warnings appear and all tire pressures are displayed correctly in the vehicle settings menu.
Reassembly
- No disassembly required for this procedure
Verification
- Verify TPMS warning light does not illuminate on the instrument cluster
- Confirm all four tire pressures are displayed correctly on the center touchscreen under Vehicle > Tire Pressure
- Check that each displayed tire position matches the physical tire location
- Inflate or deflate one tire by 5 PSI and verify the system detects the pressure change within 2 minutes of driving
- Use scan tool to verify no TPMS-related diagnostic trouble codes are present
- Confirm sensor signal strength is adequate (typically above -70 dBm) for all four positions using scan tool
