Power Window Motor - Rear

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the rear power window motor on a 2025 Rivian EDV 500 electric delivery van.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Disconnect 12V battery negative terminal and wait 2 minutes for system capacitor discharge
3. Lower affected window to mid-position for optimal motor access
4. Photograph door panel clips and connector locations for reference during reassembly

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove rear door panel
   Use panel removal tool to carefully pry door panel starting at bottom edge. Remove any visible T20 Torx screws from door pull handle and lower panel edge. Disconnect door handle cable by lifting retaining clip. Lift panel upward to disengage from upper retaining clips and remove from door frame.

   Remove vapor barrier access panel
   Carefully peel back lower section of vapor barrier sheet to expose window motor mounting area. If full barrier removal is needed, remove adhesive slowly to avoid tearing. Create access opening large enough to reach motor mounting bolts and electrical connector.

   Support window glass
   Raise or lower window until mounting bolts are accessible through door access holes. Use masking tape to secure window glass to door frame in current position, preventing it from dropping when motor is disconnected. Ensure tape is secure and glass is stable before proceeding.

   Disconnect window motor electrical connector
   Locate window motor electrical connector near motor housing. Press connector locking tab and pull connector straight away from motor. If connector is difficult to access, use wire disconnect tool. Verify connector is completely disengaged before proceeding.

   Disconnect window from regulator
   Locate the two 10mm bolts securing window glass to regulator arm through door access holes. Remove both bolts and carefully slide glass free from regulator clips. Ensure window remains taped securely in upper position.

   Remove window motor mounting bolts
   Locate three T25 Torx bolts securing window motor to door inner panel. Remove all three bolts while supporting motor assembly. Note orientation and position of motor relative to regulator mechanism for proper reinstallation.

   Remove window motor assembly
   Carefully maneuver motor and attached regulator arm through door access opening. May require tilting or rotating motor to clear door frame components. Remove motor from door and set aside on clean work surface.

   Install new window motor
   Position new motor assembly through door access opening, aligning with mounting holes on door inner panel. Ensure regulator arm is oriented correctly to engage with window channel. Insert motor into proper position matching original installation.

   Install motor mounting bolts
   Install three T25 Torx mounting bolts finger-tight, ensuring motor is properly seated against door panel. Tighten bolts in star pattern to ensure even seating. Verify motor does not move or shift after bolts are secured.

    Connect window to regulator
    Guide window glass down into regulator arm clips. Align mounting holes and install two 10mm bolts. Tighten bolts securely. Remove tape securing window glass to door frame.

    Reconnect electrical connector
    Connect electrical harness to window motor, ensuring connector locks fully with audible click. Gently tug connector to verify secure connection. Route harness to avoid pinch points in door mechanism.

    Test window operation
    Reconnect 12V battery. Before reinstalling door panel, cycle window up and down several times to verify proper motor operation and smooth glass travel. Check for binding, unusual noise, or irregular movement. Adjust regulator alignment if necessary.

Reassembly

1. Reinstall vapor barrier, ensuring proper seal around all edges to prevent water intrusion
2. Align door panel upper clips with door frame slots and press firmly to engage all retaining clips
3. Reconnect door handle cable and verify handle operation before securing panel screws
4. Install all T20 Torx screws and verify panel is secure with no gaps or rattles

Verification

• Test window from both driver controls and individual door switch through full range of motion
• Verify window auto-up and auto-down features function correctly if equipped
• Listen for smooth motor operation without grinding, clicking, or unusual noise
• Check window seals properly against weatherstripping at full close position
• Verify no error codes appear on instrument cluster related to window operation
