Parts

  • Front window regulator assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Window motor (if separate from regulator) × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Door panel retaining clips × 5 — Replacement as needed
  • Weathershield tape × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Disconnect 12V auxiliary battery negative terminal and wait 2 minutes
  3. Roll window to approximately mid-position if still operational to allow access to regulator mounting bolts
  4. Place protective covers on painted surfaces of door and surrounding areas
  5. Photograph door panel and electrical connector locations for reference during reassembly

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove door panel
Remove door handle trim bezel using panel removal tool. Remove T30 Torx screws from door pull handle area and lower door panel edge. Disconnect courtesy light connector if equipped. Using trim removal tools, carefully release door panel retaining clips starting from bottom edge and working upward. Lift door panel up and away from door frame to disengage top hooks.
  2. 2
    Remove weathershield
Carefully peel back the plastic weathershield from the door frame, starting at the bottom corner. Take care not to tear the weathershield as it may be reusable. If equipped with foam seals around the window opening, carefully remove these and set aside for reinstallation.
  3. 3
    Disconnect window motor electrical connector
Locate the window motor electrical connector inside the door cavity. Press the connector release tab and disconnect the harness from the window motor. If connector is difficult to access, use an electrical connector release tool. Secure the harness out of the work area with masking tape.
  4. 4
    Secure window glass
If window is not already in the full-up position, carefully raise the window glass manually to the full-up position. Using masking tape or window wedges, secure the glass in this position to the top of the door frame. Ensure glass is stable and will not drop when regulator is disconnected.
Glass must be properly secured before proceeding - unsupported glass can fall and shatter
  5. 5
    Disconnect window glass from regulator
Locate the window glass attachment points to the regulator lift channels (typically two bolts accessible through access holes in the door frame). Remove the 10mm bolts securing the glass to the regulator lift brackets. Gently lift glass slightly and ensure it remains secured at top of door. If equipped with anti-drop clips, slide these into locked position.
  6. 6
    Remove regulator mounting fasteners
Locate all regulator mounting fasteners inside the door cavity (typically 3-5 bolts). Remove the T30 or T25 Torx bolts securing the regulator assembly to the inner door frame. Note that some bolts may be hidden behind the regulator mechanism and require repositioning of the regulator arms for access.
  7. 7
    Remove window motor mounting fasteners
If the window motor is separate from the regulator assembly, locate and remove the 8mm or 10mm bolts securing the motor to the door frame or regulator bracket. Note motor orientation and cable routing before removal.
  8. 8
    Extract regulator and motor assembly
Carefully maneuver the regulator and motor assembly out of the door cavity through the largest access opening. The regulator arms may need to be carefully collapsed or repositioned to fit through the opening. Feed the motor harness through any mounting grommets. Be aware of sharp edges inside the door cavity.
Regulator spring tension may cause sudden movement during removal - maintain firm grip on assembly
  9. 9
    Prepare new regulator assembly
Unpack new regulator and motor assembly. If motor is separate, attach to regulator per manufacturer instructions. Verify that the regulator is in the mid-position or matches the position of the removed unit to ease installation. Compare new assembly to old assembly to confirm correct parts.
  10. 10
    Install new regulator assembly
Feed the motor harness through any mounting grommets and carefully insert the new regulator assembly into the door cavity through the access opening. Position the regulator arms and lift channels to align with mounting holes in the door frame. Start all mounting fasteners hand-tight before fully tightening.
  11. 11
Secure regulator and motor mounting fasteners
Tighten all regulator mounting T30 or T25 Torx bolts securely in a cross-pattern sequence. If motor is separate, install and tighten the motor mounting bolts. Verify that all fasteners are properly seated and tightened. Check that regulator moves freely without binding.
  12. 12
    Reconnect window glass to regulator
Remove tape or wedges temporarily securing the glass. Lower glass carefully until the lift brackets align with the glass mounting points. Install the 10mm bolts through the glass mounting holes and into the regulator lift brackets. Tighten securely but do not overtighten to avoid cracking glass mounting points.
  13. 13
Reconnect electrical connector and test operation
Reconnect the window motor electrical connector ensuring it clicks fully into place. Temporarily reconnect the 12V battery. Test window operation through full up and down travel multiple times to verify smooth operation and proper glass alignment. Check for any binding, unusual noise, or irregular movement. Disconnect battery again before completing reassembly.
  14. 14
    Reinstall weathershield and door panel
Reattach the weathershield to the door frame, pressing firmly to ensure proper adhesion. Replace foam seals around window opening if removed. Position door panel over door frame, engage top hooks first, then press firmly around perimeter to engage all retaining clips. Install T30 Torx screws in door pull and lower panel. Reconnect courtesy light if equipped. Install door handle trim bezel.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked
  2. Verify weathershield is properly sealed to prevent water intrusion into door cavity
  3. Confirm all door panel clips are engaged before driving - loose panel can cause rattles
  4. Replace any broken door panel clips with new OEM clips

Verification

  • Reconnect 12V battery and perform window initialization procedure if required by vehicle system
  • Test window operation through complete up and down cycles at least 5 times
  • Verify auto-up and auto-down functions work correctly if equipped
  • Check window glass alignment with door weatherstripping and A-pillar seals
  • Listen for any abnormal noises during window operation
  • Verify window stops correctly at full-up and full-down positions without binding
  • Test window operation from both driver controls and door-mounted switch
  • Check door panel for proper fit and absence of rattles
