Replace a TPMS sensor on a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck Dual Motor. The sensor is integrated into the valve stem assembly inside the wheel; tire dismount/remount and rebalance are required. After install, the Cybertruck must auto-relearn sensor IDs via driving.
Warnings
⚠️Cybertruck uses a 48V low-voltage system — do NOT assume 12V tools/testers behave normally on this vehicle. Disconnect the low-voltage battery before any electrical work near the wheel wells.
⚠️NEVER touch, cut, or pierce any orange cable. The Cybertruck HV system is 800V and immediately lethal.
⚠Cybertruck curb weight is significantly higher than other Teslas. Use jack stands and lift points rated for the load and follow the lift-point diagram in the owner's manual to avoid damaging the stainless exoskeleton or battery enclosure.
⚠Use only Cybertruck-specific TPMS sensors. Sensors from Model S/3/X/Y may not be compatible with the Cybertruck's RF protocol or auto-learn system.
⚠The stainless steel exoskeleton scratches and dents easily and cannot be hammered or pulled like normal sheet metal. Protect fenders during wheel handling.
ℹ️Cybertruck uses auto-relearn TPMS — sensor IDs are typically learned after driving above a threshold speed for several minutes. No manual relearn procedure is required for most cases.

Parts
- TPMS sensor assembly (Cybertruck-specific, 433 MHz) × 1 — Manufacturer-specified Cybertruck TPMS sensor — verify part by VIN
- Replacement valve stem grommet/seal kit (typically included with sensor) × 1 — OEM service kit included with sensor
- New wheel valve cap × 1 — OEM-style metal-free cap (avoid corrosion on aluminum stem)
Preparation
- Park on level ground, place in P, engage parking brake.
- Exit ALL doors with the key fob away from the vehicle. Wait at least 2 minutes for HV systems to fully de-energize, even on this non-HV job.
- Disconnect the low-voltage battery (48V system on Cybertruck — see architecture notes; location and disconnect procedure differ from other Teslas). Follow Tesla Service Manual for the correct 48V isolation procedure.
- DO NOT touch, cut, or pierce ANY orange cable — these are high-voltage and lethal.
- If at any point you encounter an orange cable, an HV component, or are unsure if a system is de-energized: STOP and consult a Tesla-certified technician.
- Identify which wheel position has the faulty sensor using the in-vehicle TPMS readout or a TPMS diagnostic tool before lifting.
- Place vehicle in Jack/Service Mode via the touchscreen to disable air suspension self-leveling before lifting.
- Loosen lug nuts slightly while wheel is still on the ground.
- Identify factory-specified lift points — Cybertruck lift points are documented in the owner's manual; do NOT lift on the battery enclosure or exoskeleton seams.
Procedure
- 1Lift vehicle and remove wheelLift the affected corner using a manufacturer-approved lift point and support with a jack stand rated for Cybertruck weight. Fully remove the lug nuts and pull the wheel straight off. Set the wheel face-down on a protective mat to avoid scratching the finish.⚠Cybertruck wheels are heavy and large-diameter. Use two hands and support the wheel as it comes off the hub.
- 2Deflate tire and break beadsRemove the valve cap and depress the valve core with a valve core tool to fully deflate the tire. Once flat, remove the valve core completely. Break both tire beads using a tire machine, keeping pressure away from the valve stem area to avoid damaging the existing sensor before removal.
- 3Dismount tire from wheelLubricate the bead and dismount the upper bead using the tire machine. Rotate the wheel so the mount/dismount head approaches the valve stem area carefully — the TPMS sensor is mounted to the inside of the valve stem and will be damaged by the dismount head if not avoided. Dismount the lower bead.⚠Use a no-touch or leverless tire machine if possible to protect the wheel face and prevent sensor strikes.
- 4Remove old TPMS sensorFrom inside the wheel, locate the TPMS sensor at the base of the valve stem. Remove the retaining nut on the outside of the wheel and withdraw the sensor and stem assembly from the inside. Inspect the valve hole in the wheel for corrosion or debris and clean as needed.
- 5Install new TPMS sensorInstall the new manufacturer-specified Cybertruck TPMS sensor with a fresh grommet/seal from the service kit. Seat the sensor against the wheel from the inside, then install the new external retaining nut. Torque the retaining nut to the sensor manufacturer's specification (typically a low value, e.g. 4–8 Nm) — refer to the Tesla Service Manual or sensor instructions; do NOT overtighten or the stem can crack.⚠Overtightening the valve stem nut is a common cause of slow leaks and sensor failure — use a calibrated small torque wrench.
- 6Remount and inflate tireLubricate the beads and remount the tire onto the wheel, again keeping the mount head clear of the new sensor. Reinstall the valve core. Inflate to seat the beads, then set pressure to the door-jamb placard cold spec for the Cybertruck. Install a new valve cap.⚠Do not exceed the bead seat pressure listed on the tire sidewall. Use a clip-on chuck and stand to the side during initial seating.
- 7Balance the wheelBalance the wheel/tire assembly on a balancer suitable for the Cybertruck's wheel size and weight. Use stick-on weights on the inner barrel to preserve appearance, taking care that weights do not contact or interfere with the TPMS sensor.
- 8Reinstall wheel on vehicleMount the wheel onto the hub. Install lug nuts hand-tight, then snug in a star pattern. Lower the vehicle so the tire just touches the ground, then torque lug nuts to the verified spec in a star pattern.⚠Critical: torque in a star/cross pattern in two passes to ensure even clamp load and prevent rotor warping or wheel-stud failure.Torque specWheel Lug Nuts140 Nm (103 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Lower the vehicle fully to the ground and remove jack stands.
- Re-verify lug nut torque to spec in a star pattern after the wheel is fully loaded.
- Reconnect the 48V low-voltage battery following the Tesla Service Manual sequence.
- Exit Jack/Service Mode via the touchscreen so air suspension resumes normal operation.
- Set tire pressures (all four corners) to the door-jamb placard cold pressure with the vehicle cold.
Verification
- Power the vehicle on and confirm no TPMS fault or 'Service Vehicle Soon' alert is present after a few minutes.
- Drive the vehicle above ~15–20 mph for several minutes to allow the auto-relearn to register the new sensor ID; confirm the affected position shows live pressure on the touchscreen TPMS page.
- Check the new valve stem area for leaks using soapy water after the first drive, especially around the retaining nut and valve core.
- Recheck cold tire pressure the next morning to confirm no slow leak from the new sensor seal.
- Note: Tesla recommends tire rotation approximately every 6,250 mi on Cybertruck due to weight and instant torque — log this service and schedule the next rotation accordingly.
